Tungsten Carbide burr, SO nice when you use the correct tools, even if it's a cheap Harbor Freight right angle grinder

I do need a new set of earmuffs though. Went to put these on, and SNAP!

Both side are bored out now...

and the gap is gone...

If I'm careful about it, I can open up the bottom end of the upper triple as well, and take the fork even further up, hmm

Started work on the front motor mount

The tube welded together at the angle is just a mock-up/template. I'll use it this coming week to bend 2 pieces at that angle to use for the mount, and weld a gusset plate inside each one

Also welded in (just from the top for now) a 3/16" thick gusset between the lower frame rails, as you can see, there is a gap between it and the steering head. That gives me the correct gap to put change the rake angle to 25° when I get a newer steering head.

Got the tubes for the front engine mount bent up yesterday at work, and have it nearly done now. Still have to drill and tap the gusset between the lower frame rails to bolt the top in, and weld the gussets on the bents tubes as well.

Started mocking up a volume in foam core board to see if my original plans for a storage space is realistically possible while getting 3-3.5 gallon fuel capacity.

I also picked up an angle gauge, and my calculations for the steering head angle is nearly spot on, 26° from 90° (compared to 26.5° that I calculated I was at)

well, got the mock-up tank built up enough to test volume with water, and I'm gonna hit 3+ gallons with ease, and still have a good amount of volume in front of it for a storage space. The water line I took a pic is just under 3 gallon, from what was on the floor, about a quart had spilled at that point (didn't get it sealed up real tight inside, but that ok, this was just for testing). and the small space under the seat give about an extra 1/2 gallon of capacity.

There are 3 gallons of water between the bucket and mixing bowl.

Kinda made it a roller today, since I won't be getting rear suspension links anytime soon (as far as I can tell) I mocked up some tubing to temporarily take the shock/link's place. Then rolled it out of the garage for some pics

New steering head bearing too, not installed yet though

I notice you are using dissimilar metals on the exhaust. I am curious if you will have the same results I have. Not bad, quite functional if done right. But for some reason "professionals" don't recommend it.

Looks sharp.

Wow, it's been way too long since I've worked on this. After returning from Sturgis, got a small fire lit under my butt to work on it again. Or at least do the tank volume study I've been meaning to do in the tail section, so I started that, another night or 2 of working on this I should be able to pour water in to get an estimated volume.

Since my car is up and running now, time to get back on the bike.

I got the bottom of the tank volume study together, and after I took these pics, I sprayed some plasti-dip in there to help seal it better than the last one was. It'll get capped up and tested with water tomorrow

Got the volume study all buttoned up, just waiting on some stuff to dry for a few hours then water testing.

Since I wasn't getting accurate results with the water, I went a different route. Play Sand. 2.75 gallons is what I came up with, I can live with that.

Was able to pick up a few smaller items earlier this week, including a front axle, headlight, throttle with right hand controls and cables, a set of bars similar to Judge bars, but narrower (great for mockup, but I think Judge bars are gonna be what I get in the end), oil cooler, x2 black new turn signals (used on XC, XR, Judge, and Boardwalk) and some Hammer/Kingpin front turns, plus a few other things.

The turn signals, I used the fork mount from the Hammer/Kingpin turns, and put the XR/XC turns on. They bolted right up, there's a step where they meet, but that's fine for now. The right hand mount turned out to be busted, so I'll have to find another old style light for that side.
