It's simply amazing the similarities between the Celica/Supra and Starion of that vintage when you boil it down.

 

Too bad the Toyotas were SLOW. I really think if we'd have had a notchback body style like the Celica GT-S, we'd have a real screamer.....really light car with mondo turbo motor. Then it really WOULD be like a Japanese Mustang.

Japanese market Celica's got a turbo 4. 1G-GTE. US market got the truck motor, 22RE. Imagine that.

That would be logical all your Jap cars have truck engines.

 

A 1g is a six though, they still use it in Altezzas. I would guess at a 3/4T engine in those Celicas
