AzStar
I am not following the "automatic" has a bell housing statement...
OBSESSIVE_ENT.
AZ the 2j engine is comming with an automatic matted to it. I can use that bell to put on the 154 since the 154 has the wrong size bell on it now. ill put the bell on the auto that the 5spd came with and sell that to you if you still want it? OBSESSIVE_ENT.
another thing they sheered off the flywhee mounting bolts to the 154 i will have to see if the 2j bolts will work also
AzStar
An automatic bell housing is not going to work for a standard transmission. They aren't the same... by a long shot.
OBSESSIVE_ENT.
for real AZ? well its comming matted to the engine so they must have switched it.
AzStar
for real AZ? well its comming matted to the engine so they must have switched it. Well maybe I'm wrong, but look at pictures of the auto bellhousing and then pictures of the bell housing on your 154. Just the simplest things like...Where does the clutch release arm go? Or where does the hydraulic slave cylinder for clutch release go? PM me your email address and I will send to you two .pdf files from the maintenance manual that show the different transmissions.I think it will be pretty plain they aren't the same. serpentkilla
Plain and simple the Bellhousing from the auto is not gonna work u have to get the bellhousing for the 1jz/2jz to r154 tranny also the flywheel.

OBSESSIVE_ENT.
well, Everybody around me says I have a glow maybe because its getting warmer and parts are comming in. pictures to follow.. I had the engine mount plates made for $100 bucks Lad style with holes and everything. I figured its a fair deal with the cost of the iron and the labor it took to do. the rad is on its way as well as 2 12 inch flat electric fansthe engine is on the wayand i got my eye on a Weldon Racing fuel pump. question to those that have gone before what size fuel line? and what size return line? tomorrow night im taking down the lines and possibly the stock pump and mayyyyyyyyybe even pulling the engine and tranny (all connections are separated). OBSESSIVE_ENT.
They were the plates off of lad drawings. Part of the price was that once I fit the engine in and mark where to weld I can bring them back for the guy to weld. I did have a concern of pitch in terms of the drive shaft is there a worry? or is it that there is no room to be anything other than in line with the rear end? Edited March 19, 2011 by OBSESSIVE_ENT. AzStar
They were the plates off of lad drawings. Part of the price was that once I fit the engine in and mark where to weld I can bring them back for the guy to weld. I did have a concern of pitch in terms of the drive shaft is there a worry? or is it that there is no room to be anything other than in line with the rear end? What I did in my case... We put the engine and trans in and "located" everything. Using the dimensions from some of the guys we put a wood spacer between the oil pan and crossmember that was about 3/8" or so. We then worked on the transmission mount. As luck would have it, the automatic transmission w/ Toyota mount lines right up with the Mitsu trans crossmember. Of course holes have to be drilled in the trans crossmember for the bolts on the Toy mount but no big deal. We did space the trans crossmember down from the frame (put spacers between frame mount location and trans crossmember). On the auto trans both ends of the crossmember have rubber spacers between the frame and crossmember and between crossmember and the bolt heads. We just took the rubber spacer that was under the cross member and relocated it between the frame and crossmember (adding it to the existing rubber already there). VOILA fit perfectly. We then put the new frame side Mitsu OEM motor mounts on the frame and bolted the plates to the block. We then bolted the Mitsu OEM engine side mounts to the frame mounts, aligned them with the engine plate and tack welded them. Took the whole kit and kaboodle out and did the final welding and put them back in. Everything looks good. Next weekend we pull the motor and finish the mounts, clean and paint them, and move some wire bundles etc for clearance, and finalize the transmission crossmember. So to answer your question... the number seems to be about 1/4 - 3/8" between your oil pan and the crossmember. I don't know what type of room the manual trans will take up. The "pitch" of the trans can be adjusted as we did with spacers on the crossmember. Again, the manual doesn't line up like the auto does from what I've seen from other pictures on the crossmember mounts. It doesn't have to be perfectly inline for pitch with the rear end as the u-joints take up some of that and I don't think you want it perfectly straight even then. I am going to start my own thread here and see if I can detail what I've done to this point. I will get pictures up of the mounts when we pull the engine. BOHO
Obsessive, I got the exact same radiator and fans...You will only be able to fit one 12" on the inside. Unless you come up onto the tank some...or cut the support to make room. if you come up with something let me know...I havn't decided what to do So I'm just going to run the 1 12 for now. Just giving you a heads up as the same was done for me. Braden
