quest925
Finally got a camera to take some pics. Here is where I'm at so far. In all honestyl I'm totally lost in a lot of areas, I think a monkey would have a better chance of building the space shuttle, but I keep on trying. Its been five years... http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi022.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi013.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi003.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi006.jpg The above is my intake setup. I hope it works. There is no port for a t-stat. I used RX-7 86-91 style injectors from RC engineering, 750, high impedance. I have no idea how to hook up any of the vac ports or how I'm going to set up the throttle cable or anything else. The intake will also not clear the brake booster to install on the studs. I dont want to take the head off to do it. Was thinking about unbolting the motor mounts and trying to jack the engine up enough to fit it, advice needed...lol http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi005.jpg Chad made this exhaust manifold for me. (THANKS) He did a great job and I will take a better pic of it tomorrow. He welded on a 40mm wastegate flange as well. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi023.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi009.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi004.jpg This is my turbo. I bought a 5 bolt to 3" V-band adaptor to bolt it up to Kelly's exhaust. Chad made the bracket for the exhaust side of the V-band for me-sweet. Its a T3/T4 .63ar. No coolant lines needed whic is great, but I havent figured out what I need to block off now... http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi001.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi017.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi011.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi010.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi007.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi014.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e88/quest925/mpi020.jpg Some other pics including my pain in the arse battery relocation. I'm using 1g wire (is that ok?) my aeromotive pump as well. I'm going to run -8AN line from the cell to the front, -8an to -10AN adaptors for the pump, back to -8AN line and trying to figure out of its ok to go to -6AN at the FPR (?) Anyway, I'll take more pics tomorrow, any help and advice is much appreciated as I'm in a little over my head here...Oh, and Im using an MSD 6al, Megasquirt, Blaster II and need to seriously brush up on how to do the distributer mod.... Chad
On my motor, I just removed al the studs and use metric bolts instead, gets rid of that aligning the studs on the manifolds problem.
quest925
yeah, your manifold bolts up perfectly! No issues, but the intake leaves no room for bolts either, the angle on the intake plenums is too steep and you cant fit them through
Blind_Drifter
I hope you install a gromet in the fire wlal for the wiring....
JustPaus_88TSi
That manifold is bad! Any velocity stack action?
quest925
I dont know what that means!!!lol, Hey nice rims man, hope you have been well, long time! PM me on those cause Im still looking for a definite alternative to the Simmons. Yeah, I would have forgotten to put a grommet in, thanks! What is velocity stack? Funky Phil
What kind of paint is that on your exhaust man?
quest925
exhaust / manifold paint from a can. We'll see how it holds up. I just didnt like the rust which was starting...I used it on my Audi and three months later its ok, that car gets really hot too

Indiana
Where's the rear water port is that not done yet? You think that front one is large enough?
attack vector
 Holy crap! that's gonna be F'n sweet when it's done man. 5 years is a long time, but you're getting close! Push that bad through to home base! You can have it done by the end of the summer and post lots of PICS!!! It'll help me get the courage to start my MPI conversion, of which I am terrified. quest925
Uh oh, rear water port??? nope, I think/hope the front one is enough. The cooling system (in theory) should be under less strain because the turbo does not need coolant. I guess I'll find out! There is plenty of room now to add a second cooler/radiator in series if I needed to as well... Thanks!, yeah its getting there- I put a grommet in the firewall and finished the batt relocation. I will hopefullt mount the fuel pump, lines, pressure regulator and intake this weekend and mount the exhaust as well...
importwarrior
doesn't the water go in through the rear water port on the intake? no water port no head cooling. i could be wrong. :-k
emagdnim
It don't need to go through the rear port... it flows into the head from the front, into the block.. and back to the water pump. Rear port is for your heater if you want it hooked up.
starquestT-70
the port in the back is not needed it flows coolant to the heater core there are other ways around that and it also brought coolant to the stock throttle body
quest925
crap, I wanted heat, oh well back to getting a DC converter and electric heater...lol I figured on a lot of things which I would miss, but I can work them our pretty easily later. I definitely want to make another intake, one which will suite all my needs and probrobly run better, but for now, I just want to get it running. I was looking in the rides section and saw Jayton's car. Man that thing is unbelievable and definitely reminded me that this (although I want it running soon) is a never ending process and will take many turns...as long as I stay employed this build will get funner every day... Thanks for clearing up the port issue by the way!
Indiana
oh good lord people that car will run so damn hot you expect water to go to the back then turn around and go out the front? No, that water in the back will just sit in there and heat up, you motor is going to pop a headgasket real quick or warp the head and crack it in 4 places the magna head changed the ports to flow more water out the rear and around/back to the front under the stat housing and they still crack those over there. All you need do is weld in a elbow fitting with a hose barb on the other end or something. The water blows in the front of the motor and out the head in the front and the rear but all the rear water goes through the heater core first so if your heater core is plugged up you'll run hot that's also why, because the flow is reduced back there, that you see all that rust laying in the water jacket in the back half of the block from the poor flow back there and that turbo not being water cooled means your oil is now heating up much more that it does with a water cooled turbo so you need to address the oil cooler as well the best path for the cooling would be move the stat housing to the rear of the motor after it exits the back of the head so it has to pass from the lower front to the upper rear but there is that large plug in the head and you'd have to make all that, the fwd water pump blows water from the back to the large front opening what we ended up with was a sucky cooling system to begin with but that motor can't run and live with that rear port just covered up but you can fix that easy enough but you'll need some more black paint
attack vector
crap, I wanted heat, oh well back to getting a DC converter and electric heater...lol Whoa! Sorry for the noob question, but do they make such things? Essentially an electric heater core for the car, for those of us who want to bypass the heater core, yet still have heat? More info on this setup would be awesome!
Technology
Ahh..... you really are in over your head if you don't know what is what, you should take it to a shop and pay, it seems like you have enough money of you're buying aeromotive pumps and have an m3 adn a UR quattro. I could be wrong. Anyway, start reading up on stuff asap. What fuel managment are you going to use?
importwarrior
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q299/I-W/M%20P%20I%20project/M-P-I-01.jpgmaybe like mine then.
quest925
LOL, well the whole enjoyment is learning myself, with the help of a friend we have done the whole car together and I have built other cars- including the entire UR...I just havent done as much research as I should have. When it comes to $, its a trade off, I have been building the car for five years and havent taken a vacation in seven years and work 6-7 days a week-to buy Aeromotive pumps... That aside, Im using a megasquirt system, been reading up on it, how to tune and so fourth. Looks pretty straight forward, but I know there will be a lot of problems. I'm freakin about the intake/cooling issue now though. I will definitely have to figure this out...any other advice? I had a feeling there was going to be more problems... quest925
oh, this may make a difference, its a Marnal head...I also have a larger oil cooler just havent had the time to hook it up yet...
Technology
Just do what you did for the main thermostat location - drill and tap in a -10 AN fitting and attatch a hose to it. easy. Or have a male -10 fitting welded on.
quest925
Ok, thanks! I will take a look at it. I'll take another pic of the intake so you can see the little room there is. actually, I need to go and look at it myself to see where the rear cooling port is, this may be pretty easy as you said!
