I've had the car about 3 years and I've driven it about 24 miles. But soon it will be back.

It looked well on its way to being done, but in truth it still had a lot of things wrong. Somethings I didn't know about until recently. After these shots were taken though a radiator hose collapsed and the another blew. The project stalled except for a few things happening here and there. But the project hadn't died. I was still buying part and still dreaming about having it running.

So the car had been reheated several times, but it looks as though now it will soon be reborn. Things are getting seriously close. The car may be my car for the 2011 SCCA Solo season. There is a Mustang GT I want to battle with. I'm not sure what classes each will fall into, but it will be fun. It will probably have horrible Pax.

The front suspension has been gone through. Bushings have been replaced, springs and strut inserts upgraded. New anti-roll bars will help with balance. SS bake lines are awaiting installation. Oh and don't forget the camber plates. New discs and pads will be going on too of course. All of this work will be replicated in the back.

I decided to break down and buy a nice turbo. While still a bit small for many peoples taste, it should do the job well. It is a 16g built by Forced Performance and has about 10K miles on it with a known good history. Certainly worlds better than a blown 12a the car had when I bought it. I expecting quick spool up and good overall power delivery.

I rebuilt the old TBI system. Broke it down to individual parts and replaced every seal and gasket. All if the screws have been replaced with Allen head screws and replaced the old leaking injectors. A blown TPS was also trash canned and from a Hyundai Sonata was sourced and modified to work.

If Top Gear has taught me anything it is that if you are going to add more boost the a Starion you need to address cooling. Where Clarkson failed I will not.

About a month ago, while I was upgrading the front suspension someone decided to free me of the two front wheels that I left sitting under the car. While it irked me. It made me look at wheels and I got off my tail and got the set I want. I chose he narrow non-SHP fronts rims. They are 7 inches wide. and the SHP rears (9 inch wide). I had one extra front one, so I sourced another and tracked down a set of rear SHPs. I will be have them all worked over. and I'm looking at having them done in a 70's-ish gold powdercoat. Thoughts?

The stagger should be pretty cool.

Now some awesome. I knew that the car would not be perfect this first build. there is a lot left to do and buy. I'm leaving my rare Australian M6 head and multi-port fuel injection for another time. I was pretty sure the old head was shot, so I had a new jet-valveless head built. I have 1mm oversized valves put into it and Schneider HD valve springs. I'm running ARP head studs as well. The old head looks good in terms of cracks, but the cam bearing surface was scratched to hell and 2 of the hydraulic adjusters were trashed. I've ordered a new mechanical stock cam for now and I'm switching to mechanical slipper rockers.

This setup should do well until I get the multi-port injection working and can run my big cam.

I've seen some get rid of them, but I think they are there for a purpose. I decided to make them both better at their job and better looking.

I coated the backside (non-turbo facing side) with high temperature black paint and the turbo side got a layer of DEI reflective film.

I wanted to go with the gold film for the pimpatude, but the silver runs less than half the price per square foot. the effect will still be quite nice as the engine is bay is having a very black and silver color scheme emerge.

I think it all came out pretty well. The big piece was a bear. I have more wrinkles than I wanted in it, but it has lots of complex and small curves.

Looks good, digg that radiator.

First time I've seen door trim on a StarQuest, I didn't know anyone put those heat shields back on :)

Yeah, it is the only one I've ever seen with trim as well. It will probably be going away when the car sees the paint booth. It will be staying red. Just needs to be freshened up and have some wounds mended.

Man that is a super clean engine bay and front suspension/ wheel well. Every car I've been under, the control arms and steering linka are caked in oil and dirt. Either you put a lot of work into cleaning that or have a jewel of a starting point.

The car looks great and I'm sure it will be worth the time and effort. RO4 love!

No, I've cleaned ii more then once. When I got it it had an oil cooler line and power steering leaks and everything was covered in 20+ years of gunk. I spent 3 or 4 weeks going through it, just to make it reasonable to work on. The wheel wells probably toke me 2 hours each for clean up. Why not if you have it all apart right? The intake was an absolute mess, but some degreaser, a stiff brush and a powerful hosing cleaned it off well too. As I' mgoing through the car I'm taking my time to clean up the messes find the leaks and fix them. The perks of having a few cars in the fleet I guess.

Nomad thanks for the kind words on the car. It is nice to get some positive feedback from you as I've admired you Quest for a while.

It runs...

I still need to get the GM alternator working. I can't seem to get it wired to the Mitsu wiring. It should be easy, but I am dumb.

I've adjusted the TPS, but it still has some idle issues. but starts up fine. Only gets a weird idle when it gets up to heat. I need to adjust it.

The radiator is tight; But it is a prefect fit. Stock fans, stock hoses, perfect. Can't say enough how nice the radiator is. I know there sour feeling between boards, and I don't care to be in the middle of that. But I think most of the users want to know about products. So I'll just say it is from the K company.

It is running injectors from one of the other companies (TT). And the downpipe is from the (M) company.

The turbo is a Force Performance 16G. The SS hoses are all Lower Shores.

It is running a stock Mechanical cam from Dad with new adjusters. The head is from Dad as well and has +1mm valves and HD springs. Ajusa (sp?) head gasket as well.

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs1209.snc4/156114_179465895402502_100000172771031_721647_1165727_n.jpg

For those looking for spark plug wiring control, I found the Caravan G54B has some great cable management. I'm using those to hold my cables above the valve cover as shown. I too the stock cable management, trimmed them down and painted them too.

I took a polishing wheel to the PCV valve and a lot of other hardware. I think they polished up nicely. And of course you can see my heat deflectors all done up and installed.

There is still work to be done, but starting the engine feels really good.

Longtime without update.

The engine is up and working, boosting to stock settings and happy. I still have a few parts to get before this stage of the build is completed.

I got to drive it around last night. The alignment is goofy and the rear axles clunk but still it was pretty fun. Ran into a bunch of kids in a slammed Civic, They looked at me as if I was driving a UFO. They probably had no clue what the car was. They revved I answered. The Conquest isn't really all that fast but they had no chance.

The car is going under the knife this weekend to replace the rear axle and swap spring & struts in the rear. The car is really getting to the fun part.

Couple of update pics.

Grr thew rest are on Facebook, which I can't access from here. I'll post them once I get home.

Yeah it is charging now. I have a real car!!! For a while it felt like the worlds worst hybrid.

I the first one fail on me but it was replaced under warrenty. Gene McGowan at Stater and Alternator (1-877-734-3381) took care of me. Lifetime warrenty on his stuff. I took a bit more care in shimming the new one as I'm not certain it that didn't contribute to the failure of the first one.

The car is under going big changes and a have piled up weeknight projects to keep me busy while the engine teardown/buildup will eat my weekends.

I present my newly refreshed and upgraded gauge cluster.

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/s720x720/224405_267122329970191_100000172771031_1360404_5470050_n.jpg?dl=1

I repainted the faded needles and replaced the stock boost gauge with a better unit. I also ditched the old AMP meter for a Voltage gauge. The gauge set is a hybrid of an 86 and a 87+. I took the old paint off the back of the needles with a razor and properly repainted them with model glue.

And I got my shift knob. Mmmm purdy...

It is a thread on and is sitting on top of a MK1 short shiftier.
