Using component speaker systems without tweets

I have this same set for the rear, the link is for the fronts : http://www.woofersetc.com/p7930/RSD5cs--Phoenix-Gold-525"-Component-Speaker-System.htm

It states "These are component speakers made to deliver the ultimate surround sound! All the mids and lows will come out of the included 5.25" speakers, while the included crossovers push all the highs out of the tweeters. Each speaker will do the job they were meant to do, and you will get amazing surround sound and sound staging, not to mention this will allow the speakers to last longer than regular speakers."

My question is if I do not use the crossovers and tweeters and just use the speakers hooked up to the stock harness what issues may I have?

Going from that quote I take it the speakers may not last as long. If the speakers aren't made for high sounds what will having the highs being sent to the speakers sound like?

You will get distortion through the driver. The sound quality will be extremely poor. A absolute waste IMO. The treble that will be delivered through the driver won't be present, the words and music will be extremely weak. The only positive you may get from the abscence of crossover and dome tweeters, will be some kick a** mid bass, LOL! If you don't like hooking all these things up, than just stick to coaxials!!

Thank you VERY much. You saved me a lot of hassle. Now that I know it is a must to hook it all up, it will be done.

Yeah, you want to at least use the crossover. You son't have to hook the tweets up, but then you won't get any highs.

Are you running these speakers with an amplifier? The factory deck won't have enough power to run them close to specs and it will sound bad. Even many "high power" aftermarket decks lack the true clean power components speakers usually need.

They will be ran with an aftermarket deck. I am looking at decks that support 4 x 60W or 4 x 80W. Debating as I'm not too sure of good brands for decks.

Unfortunately, any head unit is not producing 40-60 RMS [true power output]. It is more like 15-24 watts RMS. Like said above, it will be weak then as well. Depending on the nature of the beast, you can use a after market deck if the components are on the entry level side, 50-75 watts RMS. Now if you buy a 4ch amp that is in the 35-100 watt RMS range you will have a nice clean and loud audio. I sold super high end car/home audio/video for many years, and I can tell you that hands down ALPINE is the best!!!!!! Audio processing is far more superior to the rest. Just google alpine F-1 Status [ nuff said ]. The deck I have sitting in my closet is one you can get pretty cheap these days used. Alpine CDA-9813 - Alpine CDA-9815. It is a highly complex unit, but it is clean, clean, clean!!!!

This is similar to the deck I've got in my Quest and in my truck.

Although there's no way it's really pushing the advertised 50x4, it doesn't do bad at all. I had the stocker speakers in it for a while, then upped the rears to and Pyle coax. That made a bit of difference. A few weeks ago I cut into a spare set of what I think are called upper bolsters and added some nice tweets in them. Really came alive then. Now it's just the weak fronts that need changing. I'll eventually get around to putting in the amps and the box with the 10's, but for now it's very decent for what it is.

An aftermarket "high-power" deck will run those RsD's just fine, as they are not power hungry.

However, you will gt FAR more benefit from them with a modest power amp. As was stated, 35-100w would be plenty.

I have the 6.5" RsD's in the front doors of my Durango and I love them! I replaced a set of $300 infinity Kappas and these sound SO MUCH better. I've been running them for about a year and a half with 115 watts per channel, and I rock them hard.

they kick a**!

Didn't look into those speakers but some component sets require both the driver and the tweeter to be hooked up to meet the resistance they are suposed to be. If your looking to run them off an aftermarket deck find one's that are not power hungry. Only spearks that come to mind are Alpines that arn't power hungry.
