alp247
I have a bad smell like ...exhaust smell in my car when i accelerate hard. Does anyone know how i can fix this or what the problem is.
michael knight
Could be fuel leak but most likely just an exhaust leak. Take it to a muffler shop for the source and have them fix it. Shouldn't cost much for a new gasket or something silly. After a hard drive pop the hood and smell around the fuel rail and look for leaks, seapage, and such. Do you run cat converter? You will stink alot more w/out it.
alp247
That was the first thing i did was check if i had a leaky injector after diving...no prblem there. Well i know for sure i have a gutted pre-cat. i should have the flange checked if there is a gasket missing. As a matter of facted i don't remember a gasket being there after i had the mid pipe put on. What gasket am i suppossed to have?
Dad
Blow off valve releasing intake gasses along with the gasses from oil catch can perhaps? Dad
alp247
I didn't say but my car is completely stock except for the hard pipes and all the cosmetic stuff to make the engine bay look pretty. i don't think that will cause the exhaust smell... Tim_C.
The problem with our injectors is that when they get gunked up, they stick to stay open longer, especially on accelleration. That problem always puts out a strong fuel smell, which is what Dad and others are pointing out too. I would get the injectors cleaned to see if that helps. cyberquest
a incorrectly adjusted TPS and ISC can also cause a rich condition. you can send out the injectors to be cleaned as tim suggested. but dont expect too much cause if they are rusted on the inside of the injector then cleaning them isnt going to do much good. if you find that you may need to replace your injectors you can find them here. http://starquest.i-x.net/viewtopic.php?t=1200
Edde
Maybe a long shot but what about a check valve not working - allowing boost thru the foot face actuator?
Cobalt60
Just want to say, I have this same exact problem, but to me it smells more like fuel than exhaust. I started a topic on this a month or so ago, but never got a sure answer. I also havent done much to try and figure it out... -Chris
AlexNYC
I similar problem. strong gas smell when i would accelerated hard specially. check and replace everything possible. One day was upset at it, that I just stood by the driver side with the hood open and started to accelerated the car really hard for while. I finally found where the gas was coming from. It was by the throttle body by the throttle cable. because the manifold gets very hot, when I would accelerated from inside by the time I would get around and look to see if any gas was leaking; it would evaporated by then. I had purchased a throttle repair kit from Dad's and did it then, case close no more smell. Makes cruising much better. Keep in mind the the intake manifold is very hot so gas will evaporate quick so keep a closed eye on it. plus a fire extinguisher handy.
alp247
Yeah I bought the same rebuild kit from DAD so i would assume i'm good there but i do feel i might need a primary injector. I need to look in the chamber and crank the engine and see the spray pattern.
Shelby
it may be exh from a not properly close'd rear hatch, or leaking exh,, or it may be fuel,, any hose thats crack'd off or split will alow boost pressure to excape any leak after the injs and throddle plate will alow air AND FUEL to excape , that means nearly all vacuum hoses and booster hose,, AND the lemon shape'd oring in the inj houseing mid section,, thats the most common air leak due to a lot of people not knowing it's there so it's over look'd a leaking bov will not give a fuel smell cause it's far ahead of the injs ,, but it will mess up the air mass air reading
