modern image
I have an 87 thats been running perfect for years. It died one hot day.....wouldnt start...cooled down for an hour and then started fine. This was the last time. Basically no spark. I have cleaned all related grounds. Swapped (with running car) the coil, distributor, and ignitor. Now im lost, any help would greatly be appreciated!!

patra_is_here
do you have any way of checking to see if the coil is receiving a primary signal?
modern image
do you have any way of checking to see if the coil is receiving a primary signal? THE COIL IS GETTING JUICE...ITS THE NEG. SIDE THAT SEEMS FUNNY. INSTEAD OF A FLASHING SIGNAL ON NEG. SIDE...APPEARS TO HAVE A CONSTANT SIGNAL, NOT THE USUAL ON & OFF SIGNAL.

Shelby
check the manual for how to test for no spark,, you basicly short across the stator and reluctor poles with a screw driver,, each time the poles are short'd the coil should spark if the pick up is good another test if you have a diff dist is to plug it in and ground the dist houseing to the engine and spin the shaft , the coil should fire as the shaft turns,, but it will do nothing if the dist is not ground'd the igniter is the part that basicly does the pulse,,the pick up just sends a trigger for it to do so if your useing the plastic igniter odds are it's the problem

patra_is_here
you either got a bad ignitor, or the ECU is sending a bad signal to the ignitor.
Shelby
the ecu has little to do with the ign igniter , it's more the igniter sending info to the ecu then the other way arround
