83starionT
I opened up the MAF on my 83 and compared it to the one on my 91 eagle talon. My 83 has a circular plug that comes out of the MAF on a pigtail with 4 wires in it. The 1g maf had 6 wires obviously a different connector which i already knew from reading here....so how do i wire this in, or can it be done to an 83??? Thx. 83_project_toy
there's a way you just got to dig around if i had time i'd try to find it again but i think it was in Advanced Virtual Mechanic section
83starionT
Every place ive read only talks about the newer quests, not the older one. I have the early model 83 its been a leaning experience, lol. I'll keep looking.
D_Venable
the 6 wire DSM MAS is NOT the one you want though. you want the DSM TURBO MAS, 7 wires The oldest SQ I've heard that someone has ran a 1G TURBO MAS on is an 86, the 83's have a completely unique setup compared to any other years though Edited April 30, 2009 by D_Venable
83_project_toy
can i ask why you think you need to run a 1g mas on your 83?
83_project_toy
i've seen 30 psi out of a 18g on my stock mas and the car was rich as hell and you could smell the raw fuel and that was with msd box adn coil helping fire. by the way thats very scary with 6in tires and here's the link http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=72079

idriftnaked707
Posted 26 February 2008 - 03:35 AM hey guys i finally decided to do this so i kept track, took pictures and even drew up a diagram. i tried to make it as easy to read as possible for the first timer. All credit for this goes to Tim_C. qithout him i wouldn't of been able to do this upgrade at all. Thanks tim first things first, make sure your accordian hose has 2 nipples, if im not mistaken 87 widebodies have these. you will need the extra nipple to relocate the oil seperator. any info on any others that can be used feel free to update me. Heres the aircan w/ the harness, i decided to use this end of the harness because i needed enough wire to reach the top of the 1st gen mas plug.http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd132/idriftnaked707/IMGA0253.jpg i cut my harness right around the middle since i will be using it again for smog in the futurehttp://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd132/idriftnaked707/IMGA0254.jpg this is how a complete 1st gen harness should look like from the back1 2 3 4x 5 6 7http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd132/idriftnaked707/IMGA0252.jpg i cut the unneccesary wires off for less confusion, the only wires you needfor this isx 2 3 xX 5 x 7http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd132/idriftnaked707/IMGA0255.jpg when your done connecting the frankenharness should look like thishttp://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd132/idriftnaked707/IMGA0256.jpg Here's a diagram that a whipped up, hopefully this helpshttp://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd132/idriftnaked707/1stgenmasconversion-1.jpg too bad i cant enjoy this until i yank off my oil pan and figure out my damn oil pressure problem. anywho enjoy fellas David
idriftnaked707
for some reason the link wouldn't allow my pics from photobucket to be seen so i had to go through and dig up those pics and repost here. is there anyway this can be in the faqs or maybe even a sticky so that we can have this info handy? Tim_C.
I'll sticky it for now. The '83 fuel injectors will burn up if run hard in a racing environment. Since you are drifting that car, I strongly recommend getting a different injector set up. All you are doing now is burning up the few '83 injectors there are left. I have contacted at least two poeple for a set that you already scavenged, just to burn them up and make it yet harder to find a set. You even burnt up a practically brand new set you got from Chad. A set that should have lasted 20 years. Please get some new style injectors in there before there aren't any '83 injectors left. I think Heron makes a conversion. FIP had one, but they are not in business now. I may need to do the same, but at least I am not burning them up like popcorn. I have found a spare set, so I really don't need them now, but it wasn't easy! I have had one set burn up, but they were ready to go when I put them in, as is the case with most sets a guy can find now a days.
