So I replaced the pickup coil and put the distributor back in, car starts but it looks like it's off a tooth because I can't get the base timing to retard any more than 10deg ATDC.   I decided to take the valve cover off and distributor out and reset it per the manual. I line up the crank to 0, cam pin and the dot on the distributor but the distributor rotor is facing away from #1. I must have put the drive gear on 180 off.
