for a four wire 02?

So today I found out something interesting. I have an 87 car swapped with an 88 harness and ECU. Apparantly the only thing different about the cases for 87 ecu compared to 88/89 ecu is that the plugs come in from the top on 87 and from the bottom on 88/89.   Here I always thought it was the mounting that was different. Just a little SQ food for thought. I wonder why they did that.
