Fuel Cut in Pre-87 MAP Cars

Anyone know how the fuel cut (or MAS overrun) works in the pre-87 cars that had factory MAP sensors? From my experience, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with actual manifold pressure even though a MAP is present, as I had an 86 that cut at factory boost levels with an 18g, and my 84 also cuts at factory levels with a small 16g. Seems fuel cut is only based on airflow through the MAS, not pressure. Unfortunately, I do not have an early service manual to dig through, but I doubt much is
