Yesterday I swapped my new rebuilt TB onto my car. After the install I walked through the reset procedure for the first time. I printed out both methods listed in the FAQ and walked through them both (I tried each method) meticulously. I was able to attain a MPS voltage of .9 at an idle speed of 850 I believe the throttle cable is at the proper tension. With the ISC plugged back in the car's curb idle is about a grand. The best I can get on the TPS is .38V all the way clockwise. With it all the way CCW I get a reading of .10V. I swapped in another TPS off my old TB and got the same thing. Now, the kicker is the car runs 5X's better than before .... so how critical is it that achieve the .50V? Any thoughts/feedback? Just in case, I'll also mention, although I don't think this influences the readings I'm getting on the TPS, that the car seems to be running a bit rich. It stumbles over itself a little bit at idle and if you introduce a vacuum leak it smooths right out. So, it doesn't seem to be getting enough air in the mixture. I'm going to replace the plugs and wires b/c I don't know when they were last done by previous owners and I'm wondering if there's not enough spark to burn up all the fuel and see if that fixes it. But, I'm still perplexed by the whole TPS thing.

I'm finally finished rebuilding my TB and I'm planning to install it tomorrow. I was going pick up the Felpro 60622 gasket mentioned above instead of the one in the kit. Does anyone know if they (meaning Autozone) typically have these in stock or are they special order?

WTT for a Nice Starion, Conquest, GVR4, Mighty Max or 1g/2g
techboy replied to BlkHwkEvo05's topic in Cars for sale
Just described me to the tee ^^^^^^. I worked w/ a guy at my first ever job when I was 15 who had one of these (20 years ago) and I had never forgotten it despite all my years working on DSM's. Still, I always wanted one. Just last year I was finally in a position to pick one up .... here I am. -

How many "wives" do you have? hehe Good luck finding something man. I'd go with a 1G or 2G, it'll be way more DDish than a Starquest. -
I guessing due to the lack of the response these aren't a very popular turbo, not used much and probably not worth much either. Thanks.

No, not at all. Like I said, I was making a long story short. It was bolted onto the manifold w/ an adapter plate and even then it didn't bolt up very well, hence the leak.
-
So, when I bought my Quest back in August it had a turbo on it that was leaking at the exhaust manifold, it was only oil cooled (not water) and it would not boost at all, mostly due to the leak I presume. Anyway, to make a long story short I replaced it with an OEM 12a and I've had this thing sitting in my basement ever since. So, today, slightly bored I decided to type the markings into Google and it turns out it's a Hitachi HT18S-S2 turbo. Seems like they were mostly used on Mazda RX-7's. I found this brief article http://grandmighty.com/hosted/finishline/index.php/2010/09/hitachi-turbo-ht18s-2s/ So, anybody know anything about these things and what I'm sitting on? Honestly, I'm not really interested in keeping it, I've got too many turbos sitting in my basement as it is. I looked it up on eBay and didn't find a one F/S. Any suggestions on what I should sell for? Sorry, I know this isn't a direct Quest question, just figured there had to be someone on here who has some experience with them. Thanks.

Can you pick me up in PA?
-
I only disagree with one thing in here. I'm also a DSM guy and I have both a blown 16G in my basement and a 20G currently on my car. Both are legit turbos and both have adjustable WG's. I tried to find a picture on my computer that showed both the markings and the WG and unfortunately I don't have a pic in that position. But this photo is from a few years ago when I took my turbo off and it shows the adjustable WG. http://img163.imageshack.us/img163/1996/dscf0260i.jpg

Not to mention the 89 OTS seat belts too. Sweet car. Wish I hadn't bought mine. Guess that's the way it always goes.

Sold.

Another positive transaction with ZoSo here too. Shipped out an item for me and it arrived the very next day. More than happy to business with him again in the future.

I had this up here a month ago or so. Deal fell through, so it's for sale again. Wheel, adapter hub, hardware. Excellent shape. Asking 60 shipped, or 50 pickup. Boxed and ready to go. http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/7674/steeringwheela.jpg

A new one ... ? I believe there is a company on eBay that is selling them. I think they are getting them from overseas (Britian or something) and they run about a buck and a half.

Yeah, I was watching the game w/ my wife's parents, whose father was a WWII vet. I was so embarassed I couldn't even look at him, and I wans't even the one singing.
-
So it's not for sale now? I saw your sig pic of few days ago in the FS section. Is that an Eclipse manifold modified to fit the G54B block?
-
I heard before the game there was an over/under on whether or not Christina would go less than or longer than 2 minutes in the singing of the National Anthem ... but I guess you could have really made a lot of money had you bet on whether or not she'd get the lyrics right. What an embarrassment.

Ok, after going through all your responses I see what's going on now. When the FSM said don't remove unless it needs to be replaced, I took it to literally mean "don't remove it", but what it really means is "don't take it apart" (which everyone is saying can be done anyway). It just confused me b/c I was like how I am supposed to rebuild the TB w/out removing it Which, BTW, I am rebuilding it, not just replacing the gaskets. I'm having some trouble w/ cold idle and I already replaced the CTS, so this was my next point of attack. I wasn't going to take apart the ISC, but I'm wondering if I should now based on what I've read. Train grease huh ....
-
Thanks Rabbit. Appreciate the link both of you.
-
I think my question isn't clear. I didn't take the ISC apart and I wasn't planning on taking it apart. I just u removed it from the TB during my TB rebuild. In the TB rebuild pages of the manual I listed above it says not to remove it unless it needed to be replaced. I'm just wondering why it says NOT to take it off ... that's all.

So, with all this snow and being stuck inside I decided to do my first TB rebuild. I ordered up a kit from EMS and everything is going fine, but I noticed today on page 14-48 of my 89 FSM and 14-74 of the 88 FSM that is says "do not remove the ISC servo assembly unless it requires replacement". I've already removed mine, so I'm hoping this note is just in place b/c it requires the TPS/ISC reset procedure to be done after it's been removed (??) I did a search and read through some TB rebuild threads, but most of them are about the soft bolts and replacing them with allens. Any insight from you guys who have been around the block a few times w/ these cars?

I think it's off season for a lot of people. Not everyone thinks cars year round., especially for those who don't use them as daily drivers.

Pictures of your car in the snow thread ....

Bwahahah ^^^^ I love the inside pics. The funny thing is all my cars are usually garage kept. I never meant to leave it out. I just parked it one day and threw a cover over it and all the sudden all these storms started coming week and after week and ... well, now it's covered. And now, Allentown PA is supposed to get 3/4" of ice tonight. Looks like my chances of getting it moved are getting better .... -

jerk .... j/k! Gotta love Cali weather. BTW - I've admired the picture of your engine bay before. I love it and I'm jealous of it. Hope to get mine to look like that some day. -
My 4x4 truck loves this stuff too, but I was kinda hoping to work on my car through the winter this year ... but that's not happening now.
