Star_V8_Quest
Wait, the SVO had independent rear suspension? I thought the only Mustangs to ever receive IRS were the SN197 ['99-'04] Cobras? My stepdad had an '83 TurboCoupe T-bird, gloss black with red interior. Non-intercooled w/alky injection and 22psi, BOILED the rears into 3rd. Sold it to some punk kid who over-revved it and tossed a rod. svo's had no irs
86TSiGuy
svo's had no irs My mistake for some reason I had it in my head that stangs got IRS from 86-93. For the record though, this isn't an SVO it's 91' coupe w/ an 88' turbo-coupe 2.3L swap. Thanks for the info guy's, keep it coming.

86TSiGuy
Yep the factory intercooler came with. After reading for awhile longer it looks like the thundercoupe to mustang swap was pretty tried and true. The 88' thunderbird turbo-coupe 2.3L dynoed in at a manufacturer's conservative 190Hp and 220lb/ft. My old man has a 3.08 gear set I can have. As long as I didn't play with it too much I could sell it to the wife as a daily for her. Oh and the guy wants $3k everything else is factory. Ask if it has the ranger head which has different rokers ( a plus) you can also put an earlier turbo (bigger) on it . The 83-86 t-birds had a larger turbo but were not i/c the 87-88 had i/c with smaller turbo. the svo had a different setup that was rated 210 h.p. If you want i can send you a video of a 11 sec. mustang that we built dynoed 383rwhp 460 ftlbs. t3\t4 60 lbs. inj. megasquirt, etc...great cars. mustangs also did not ever have disc in the rear till 94 and the t birds had them way back so it is all there it should have an 8.8 with 4 lug discs. 83_project_toy
i had a 86 turbo coupe that i was planing on swaping the motor into my ranger. that motor felt vary strong in that tbird. only issue i would watch out for is the fuel rail. alot of people pull them off and then screw up the orings on the injectors and they start pissing fuel everywhere. 86TSiGuy
Thanks for the heads up guy's. I'll take a close look at the fuel system. How bout the 5-speed from the tbird? I know the old man has spares for a 5-lug conversion too, leftover from his 90' twin turbo stroker. My Dad may be the worst parts squirrel I know, I should buy more car's he has. eurotiva
The trans is great! it is a borg warner t-5 very available and cheap also you can get different 1st gear ratios so you can run a 3.73 or better gear and still use first but the t birds have a smaller input shaft than the 5.0 mustangs http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv7/eurotiva/23T005.jpg http://i664.photobucket.com/albums/vv7/eurotiva/th_mustang.jpg
jinx
http://www.turboford.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=2 has a ton of info. 2.3 is a helluva motor. Torque characteristics similar to ours our local turbo guy has one of them factory 2.3 turbo cars with some huge turbo on it,,he seems to think they are fast and no i'm not going to race him ,,last thing you do is piss off your turbo guy is that Evergreen ? Seen some beasts run T3/T4s to 30+psi= stock T3s that Evergreen upgraded. They MUST know what they're doing. I actually singled them out to kick some work their way. We'll see. dmyers151
From what my friend has told me, the transmissions from the original SVO's were actually 'World Class' T5's. He's told me that they are actually stronger than the standard T5's that come in the 5.0's and such and are very stout.
jwrape
I loved mine. It was stupid fast and light and handled perfectly. I would eat stock GT's for lunch off the line.
