BIGGER, light weight speaker mounts + INSTRUCTIONS!!!!!

Recommended Posts

My plan is to have a great stereo and actually reduce the WEIGHT! Choose what is ever you decide. I'll give you a link to show a TON of stereo equipment. Maybe I can save you some money. www.mmwholesale.com  Btw....if you watch "Speed Channel" in the evening, they have a show called "UNIQUE Whips". It'll show you some cool stereo stuff and.....building you OWN SPEAKER ENCLOSEURES!

My first design for my car. Single thickness cardboard. Also put some trim along the edge.

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/Professor-Quest123/STEREO/Z112.jpg

Then I realized (because I wanted to get rid of the AUTO SEAT BELTS) that I had to make it WIDER about 2". So I used a 85 parts car to get the size right....cover the trim in black. A little differant plan.

Some thing MUCH LIGHTER!!!

I wanted a differant way to attach the seat belts.

No more rear seats. (26lbs.) Weighs 9.5lbs The auto seat belts, motors and entire tracks was removed. Headliners are wider in 83-86 to cover the track. Shoulder belts will be attached to a peice of moly steel across the rear....very light too.

New light weight cover.....

Two 12" mid size, 8" mid size, some tweaters & amps.

I'll glue (urethane) the woods from the back side.

Double thick size of cardboard.....fiber-glassed on both sides and reinforced on the corner inside. Pretty tuff.

Thats the same I plan to do with my system. Looks good! You couldnt tell me more about your harness brace could you? Im wanting to do the same thing cause Ive also removed all my seat belt stuff and need something for my harnesses til I get my roll bar. The only place that said theyd do it for me said the strip would not allow it.

I know those speakers are CHEAP!! I just don't want those HEAVY---------------- SPEAKERS. You can pick whatever you want.

Do I need the vents? I think not.

I left open the "vents" at the rear. You can close them if you like.

THEY SOUND AWESOME!!!!

I wonder how the fiberglass will make the speakers sound. I always used 3/4" high-density fiberboard for my sub boxes(fully enclosed with ports), not a good choice if weight is an issue. Maybe lining the inside with dynamat would help a little. I think you may lose the benefit of the big speakers(low end) not having them in either a sealed box or properly ported enclosure. All depends on what you expect out of your stereo I guess.

That fiberglass reinforces the double cardboard. 3/8" plywood gives something to support the heavier weight. Then a thin layer of carpet that have no back on the carpet.

IT SOUNDS GREAT!........SUPER LOUD!........SUPER CLEAR!

I tried the "Low Pass" switch......way too much BASS. Sounded like it will blow the windows right out. "High Pass".......to much tweaters.

"FULL"...........PERFECT!!!

I tried it without the insulation at all...........ain't gonna need it!!!

Now....if you think you want it, build some "walls" to seperate each speaker. Another idea...how about that heavy cardborad cylinder shape (used for pouring concrete inside of it or around it! You can use the fiberglass to attach it around each speaker and then cap it off with more cardboard.......wood etc.

I was thinking about adding 6 x 9s. NO WAY! It already sounds PERFECT!

This is more like rubber that you can see where it started to squeez out. (black) You need to warm it out to push it out of the caulk-gun. You might use silicone too.

I just orderd some 8" to try 4 ohms......because I used 8 ohms now. That makes a total of 2.6 ohms per channel thru the amp. It's a 2 ohm amp per channel.

But....with the four and eight ohm on the same circuit the 8 ohm driver has to drop two thirds of the voltage and the four ohm driver has to drop one third of the voltage applied to the circuit. Therefore the eight inch is getting twice the power of the twelve inch on each side.

I would try running two different amps PQ. You would definitely see the full potential of the speakers that way. I put a small system in my g/f's car using 2 12" pioneer speakers from wal-mart and two 250 watt pioneer amps I picked up from radioshack (all ran by a pioneer deck). I have one amp per speaker and it sounds wonderful.

I know. Or maybe a 1000 watt w/ 4 channels. It was making the amp pretty warm. Those 8" woofers (not SUB woofers) I ordered for $24 each. I'll get you guys a link to show you EVERYTHING........tomorrow. A friend of mine gets all this stuff pretty cheap.

At "Audio Expess" a guy told me he had a 2,000 watt amp. I asked him how loud you could play for very long. He said.....2 minutes later at full power.......his NOSE STARTED TO BLEED!!!!!

I've got PLENTY of speakers to choose from. But.....I want to stick with the LIGHTER WEIGHTS FOR ME!!! Ignore the stupid remarks. You can pick ANY materials/shapes/WEIGHTS that you want. If you watch "Speed Channel" in the evenings....watch "Unique Whips". All custom stereo enclosures......and even CUSTOM DASHES with HUGE SPEAKERS in the dash!!!!

I use the BOSE in my Porsche (the doors, factory Chevy Corvette x4) and the enclosures sitting on the back seat. 10 lbs each. I have twin 200 watts under the plywood on the passanger side under your feet. (I moved it rearward about 1" to make room for the amps) Radio Shack. Sounds damn good!

Sure. If you look at the fiberglass box and see the differant fabrics that are shown, if you feel the need....add another layer. Only use that tool for that CLOTH.........not on the RANDOM WOOVEN. It'll pull of the random.

I thought it was gonna use 2 layers.......but it was pretty tuff with one layer. Add the 3/8" plywood to give it a solid area to attach the speakers..........

Paint brush......DO NOT STROKE THE FABRIC!!!! PUSH INTO THE FABRIC VERY FAST TO DRIVE OUT THE AIR BUBBLES. tap-tap-tap-tap-tap....very fast.

It calls for 12 drops of hardner to ONE ONCE of resin.........slow it down to about 9-10 drops.

One 4" long section across the corner........4 onces of resin.

Btw....after you cut all the holes for speakers etc, make a little more resin to cover the exposed cardboard & all along the edges. It will stiffen up all the exposed cardboard. I did two applications.....let it cure once at a time.

RESIN WILL BEGIN TO THICKEN IN ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES!!! If you are working a LARGE AREA....having a pal with brush comes in handy.

Its a Epiphone Les Paul Studio. Is it a 4x15 or a 4x12 cab? Looks like a 4x12 cab and since its marshall its probably tucking some celestion woofers. Ive been rockin out for a few years myself.

PS: I prefer the double cutaway Les Pauls
