smog
can you make me an adapter for a t56 to a audi inline 5?
Matt W
Believe it or not, my friend and I are building a nice CNC mill right now. Our plans are to start a business making marks like what I needed for this project. So yes, we will be able to make that adapter. Won't be until fall before we can take on any real work. Matt W
Update: As of today, it looks like the firewall won't need to be cut. I cut 3" from the oil pan which allows the engine to see nice and far down into the bay. The valve cover hits the booster so I removed. After looking around, I can convert the car to Hydroboost for ~$125 using parts from a 99+ Cobra. Matt W
Didn’t get a whole lot done this weekend. I mounted up the hydro booster that I got off of a 2003 Cobra. Man, what a difference it made in space. The engine actually fits now. In one of the pics you can see how I had to hack up the oil pan. It looks like converting over to rack & pinion would be a good choice at this point. I need to think about that before I move forward anymore. There a few small issues with the firewall that I’m sure a BFH will take care of. I’ll attach a pic to show much room converting to the hydro booster gave me verse the vacuum booster. The other pics should illustrate some of the other issues I will have to tackle. smog
ooo, give me some more information on that hydrobooster, I want to convert to it right now, save me the trouble of mounting a tilton pedal assembly. How exactly does it work? and how hard was it to adapt? What was the end cost also?
Matt W
It was beyond easy from a mounting point. I started another thread in the Suspension and Brake forum as I thought it would make more sense to talk about it there. Find that here. http://www.starquestclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=46037
putz2point6
9.#:1 is boost friendly on a dohc, this motor isnt a pushrod motor why do u think turbo stock b16 hondas make so much power?
smog
vvti 1jzgte engines run 9:1 Makes for a good daily driver, but a lower comp engine would benefit from more boost.
Matt W
Well, my piston choices aren't that friendly. They offer high compression (10.8:1 I believe) pistons and the low compression ones I got which are 8.5:1. The stock compression ratio is 9.85:1 and the pistons are cast. If you really think you can make more power with that compression ratio vs 8.5:1 you should read up, try Maximum Boost to start.
MontyTSI
matt find a direct number to wiseco otis probably has a contact number..they are usually pretty good about custom pistons.. they should have all the stock pistons info (pin hieght, comp, etc.) they will taylor the dish around what comp you need, valve clearance usually isnt a problem going from stock to a turbo piston so they are easier for a piston manufacturer to build with little issue. Crazy larry
The area you need to massage can be removed you can cut the hump with the bolt off with a grinder the firewall is two layers thick then if you need more room use the BFH. I had to do that on my V-8 swap for clearance for the distributor. Be carefull not to cut through the second layer use some caulking around the edges and a touch of spray paint that is close to the same color as the car and no one will now. Looking good oil pan looks fun. I did the samething to my crossmember boxed it in around the front of the engine with square tube. 8)

Matt W
cant you cut that waterline 1" insted of pulling out the BFH? Yes. I'm going to cut 1" from that line as listed in my post above the picture. I think with 1" removed it will free up quite a bit more room.
tigertron
 lol... should've guessed... 5min of google vs 3 years of research... I'll keep it shut and open up my ears instead Heard about the G-Force upgrade for the T-5, expensive but probably worth it in the end instead of swapping out broken T-5 trannies. Well, just keep us posted on your progress 8) Mitchell. Have you ever seen a broken t5 that did not drive home? They are strong stock but g firce is a good idea
VR-4-NOW
I am impressed with the swap. I thought I was the only one who dreamed of a SHOQuest. Though they are not as powerful or as easy to do as a V-8 they are definately a beutiful engine. I have a 94 SHO and am convinced that engine was meant for a Quest. It is not hard to get around 300 horse from a N/A 3.2 and still get 200k to 300k miles out of it. Make sure the timing belt tensioner is replace along with the belt and do the water pump too. I have 150k on my sho and it burns and uses no oil at the 3000 mile change. When my tranny finaly goes out the motor will find a new home in a Quest. By the way. The series 1 and series 2 3800 engines were in front wheel drive cars, and I have been told, have no where to bolt motor mounts to for a RWD. They would need to be custom

Matt W
Hey all. Sadly I had to abandon the project. My girlfriend told me last October that she was pregnant. So, I had to make a lot of decisions. Between the two cars I had (88 Quest and 94 TT Supra) in school full time, working full time and starting my own company, I had to decide what to drop. The Conquest was the least important thing in my life and was taking up a lot of time on the weekends. Because of that I sold the car and finished the classes I was in. I would love to take this project on another day but it looks like I will have many busy years ahead of me. We are planning are wedding now which will take place on April 14th of this year. That and all the baby stuff time isn't as easy to come by. I did keep the Supra though as it doesn't need much attention, just good gas and some tinkering. I hope to be the first ever 6 speed to run 10's with the stock turbos, engine, head, cams, etc. The car has gone 11.2 so far so cross your fingers for me .
