SDS is the best bang for the buck so far.  especially if you get the 25% discount.  there is a GP still open till the 30th of this month.  there are a few members already using this and more on the way.  as far as being the BEST, i cant answer that.  but i know sds has no need for a laptop to tune and is fairly simple to use, thats what perked my interest in it.

Best is pretty subjective. Best way to find the right ECU is to read up on them all and find out how YOU want to setup a car.

One ECU might not allow datalogging, for instance... and that may be a requirement of your that you couldn't live without. That would change your idea on "best ecu".

Don't rule out Haltech, AEM, Motronic, Autronic etc. Some of these ecu's may cost a little more, but sometimes its worth an extra few months of savings if it has the features you want/need.

I am personally going with a Tec 3 unit for my car. I would say it all depends on your goals for the car. I haven't installed it yet but it will be done in the next few weeks. Along with a custom intake manifold and header, turbo etc.

Ya that's a hard question, kinda like asking which motor oil is best...or who has the best Pizza.

ANY of them out there will work and make big improvements.

I look for features I will use, parts and tech availability and others using the same ECU to trade tuning ideas/maps/suggestions/configurations, etc.

I use an SDS-4E and am very pleased with the system overall.

i don't have a starquest (yet), but i do know about engine management. i was using a haltech e6k on my turbo mx3 that i had. very good system. IMO, the E11 is overkill for a street car. yes, it does have a lot of features, but most of them are for cars made for the track. The E11's tech support isn't that big yet and not that many people using to help out with problems. The E6K, now the E6X, is widely used and known. Probably one of the best bang for the buck stand alone's out there if you want datalogging and tuning on the fly capabilities with a laptop.

also take into consideration people with starquests using them. it helps to be able to trade maps. saves money.

some systems out there may be easier to use, but do they offer as broad and precise tuning as some of the more in-depth systems out there?

there are about 3 quests running megasquirt units now.  there are a few posts about them if you search,  eeaston probobly has the most experience.  I have an ms unit i built about 6 months ago but havent had a chance to run it because of engine problems.  there are so many programs out there for the megasquirt and it is faster(processor) then most aftermarket units. and way cheaper.  it can data log.  output real time graphs and data about your engine.  i posted screen shots somewhere from the mstweek3000 program, its sweet.  it also will display gauges on the screen, great if you wanna link it to an lcd screen incar or have a lap top.  i built my ms for under 100 bucks. about 85 bucks.  if you have to buy everything and you setup up their relay board and use their stim your looking around 200 bucks worth of parts.

ill try to dig up some screen shots and post them of the mstweek program

there are also edis systems compatible with the ms system and they use ford edis parts that are very common, the MS unit uses gm sensors which are also very common and cheap.  comes with a map sensor thats good until 21psi. but can be upgraded if you plan on crossing tha tline.

on this between the gauges and the ve graph you see the red/ green dots.  you can select a gauge to monitor and that bar will rise and fall with the gauges so its easier to see while tuning, there is so much but if your interested and have tons of time its worth a read.  this program is one of the ones designed by an ms user i think. there are several and all free to download so you can play with them without having the ms unit. very user friendly setup with all the ones ive played with.

can be set for wide band or narrow band.  kit prices for everything is 140 bucks for the ecu and all the parts, there is a guy who gets everything to gether and ships it all. you can buy things seperatly.  they have a digikey part number setup for all the parts needed. if you do it that way its 136.  they also have a megaview board which outputs data on it.

v2.2 program is probobly the most basic program and i dont think it data logs.  if that mstweek link works i posted you should look around that.  basically the v2.2 i think is the 'beginer' program, very easy to use and very simple lay out.  the different programs all are great but some offer more options then others.  i havent played with them all but lots of people like the mstweek and i do too.  you could see from v2.2 how easy it is to program.  basically on the mstweek you set your parameters and the ms datalogs from the sensors and adjust the ve table according to what paramaters for ve you set.  you can preset a certain number of rpm values and it will adjust between those to meet that data. also you can set warmup enrichement values for coolant temps and stuff like that.  no isc servo:):):). ill check the sites tomorrow and try to find you the section where they listed a few programs.

the megamanual link works now also, lots of good info there.  if you click on tuning there should be a link to all the programs. not sure if you have join the yahoo group or not to actually get to them.  let me know if that mstweek link doesnt work
