Mech
Bought a car that had sat in someones backyard for 20 years. Blown engine. towed it to my house. Got it running and steering box was leaking bad. Swapped it with a good box from a parts car I had. Got the car running, and steering wheel is way off, like maybe between the 1- 2 o clock position. I have no idea if it was like that when i bought it, or it was from the box swap. I was sure i had everything linesd up properly, aligment marks correct on the pitman arm, wheel centered etc. Should i remove the steering wheel and center it before I get an aligment done? Or let the alignment shop center it? Edited August 30 by Mech
tux
Let the alignment shop do it. They won't remove the wheel, most likely. But they can get it straightened and you can realign the wheel later
psu_Crash
I went through quite the discussion with firestone many years ago. They insisted that my steering linkage had been modified from stock. It was all new components, but all stock. Couldn't for the life of them figure out how it only adjusts on one side and still get the wheel straight. It's on splines ... if the pitman arm movement is near center just pull the wheel off and POOF done! Anyways, no reason to move the wheel now. Let them get it sorted then set the wheel.
