Lol I hear ya . I once tried welding a bov flange on with one of those type welder sit was so ugly.

I just stay with the good old arc/ stick welder for that reason

This is a .035 fluxcore pass. Did you clean it after you welded it? Most people dont know to clean the flux off after the weld is complete. A stiff brissle wire wheel or a welder pick hammer.

a mig is cheaper but if you have a gas touch you can do a coat hanger weld that will work just fine but it'd cost more for a torch set up

then a gas mig , burning holes in the pipe will be a phroblem for you if too hot

 

migs have not been arrround or ever ;)

 

tack weld the assy also tack in a couple spots the weld will always draw the metal , mul tacks can help keep more pipe in proper posson ,drop down so you can also weld on top

This is a nice package big enough at $235.00. Beg, borrow, or steal some tanks ;) and you're in pretty cheap for good quality.

torch heads are reasonable it's tanks that kill you

large tanks can be rented for $100-$200 each per yr ,,

 

rentals are normally only made thru shops , small tanks are always running out during the job your doing ;)

 

you can get propane set ups much cheaper but not very hot for welding
