Tacer
So I have an 87 and im just now putting in the balance shaft removal kit. i need to know where the dots on the sprockets need to be facing on the new chain and sprockets. or if they need to be set to something specific at all because the chain is only spinning the oil pump. nightwalkerancestery
Doesn't need to be in any specific position. Just make sure you take out the balance shaft bolted to the oil pump and put in the plug. The oil hole plug that looks like a press bearing is for the upper balance shaft. Some use the small bottom guide for the chain, but mine was too tight to put it on. So I just have it without the guide. - Charles
JoeyLeet2
While replacing the vacuum advance I removed the distributor and I'm afraid that it's off a tooth. Before I rent a timing light, can anyone tell me if it will even run while being off a tooth? Or do I just need to adjust it more.
Dad
Be sure oil pump gear is on correct, I think the teeth have to be closer to pump. timing marks do not matter.
techboy
The distributor is pretty easy to play with. The one bolt is slotted, so if something is not right idle was, you can gently tweak it up or down without renting a timing light, No the best way, but you can get a pretty smooth idle that way.
