TexasQuest
Antique plates are cheaper I believe and you also have a mileage limit. Specialty plates do not. Technically by law you are supposed to have a front plate in Texas.
averse
Technically by law you are supposed to have a front plate in Texas. It was back in 1991, but I got pulled over in Plantersville area by DPS for no front plate and ticketed. Not a technicality back then.

vbrad511
Best bet is to either ask at DMV or look up options online. A few weeks ago (here in Illinois) the gal at DMV offered me the "extended antique" plate,, which lets me drive it like a normal car April through October, and then only to show it. Cost me $51 for the year. I'd never even heard of Extended Antique plates.
