I sent him some pics earlier today, and actually just got in from working on it. I pretty much got all the bodywork done. I still have to hit the repair areas with some 220, but then I can go at them with some filler primer, hopefully in the next couple days. The 1/4 and the door ended up being kind of a nightmare. Nothing I couldn't handle, they just added more work than I was expecting. I'm also finding other areas with previous minor bodywork. It all appears to be done fairly well, but I'm still grinding it all of and re-doing those areas.

Well, I'm glad you think it's moving fast....I'm feeling a little behind on it as the door and 1/4 took a lot of time I didn't plan on. My schedule is pretty open. I talk to people all the time about various jobs they want done, but when I have an opening whoever has the money ready to go gets in. Also, I require half down before I even touch a car. At first I was down to do a pay as I go sort of deal, but after taking two different cars in with a $500 down payment, I did some work but the owners couldn't afford to come up with the rest, so I ended up basically storing cars for people... one of them for over a year until he sold it. My timeframe for working on these things is usually much longer than the average body shop. Priority number one is being a stay-at-home-dad, so all the fun that happens in the shop is limited to an occasional evening or weekends when the wife can watch the baby. I'm usually only getting about 20 hours in a week out in the shop, so it's more part-time than full time. Unfortunately, that means my timeframes for doing a job are usually pretty long. If you want your car done quick, I'm not your guy. However, my labor rate is half of what normal body shops charge, and I know SQ bodies better than any body man you're gonna find at a local shop.

Thank you, sir. I must admit, I'm pretty stoked about this job. I love any chance I get to get paid working on SQs, but his will by far be the highest quality job I've done independently. I've done some top-notch award winners, when I worked at the hot rod shop, but this will be the first that has my name on it, instead of some shop I work for. I'll be getting crazy with the clear like you did on your car too...5 coats when I paint it, then I'll go back and block all that with 1000 and then hit it with 5 more coats of clear, then block that and polish. There is one negative about this deal.... If Nick and I are ever at the same car show, there would be no way my car could beat his for "Best Paint" LOL.

such is the life of a painter... you have to keep stepping up your game and somewhere along the way your personal car looks old school...lol
