Frenchi934
http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/2010/photo02261235.jpg Had originally planned on L33 (5.3 h.o., aluminum block, ls6 heads) swapping this car, but after searching everywhere for an affordable t56 (that wasnt part of a "package deal" i couldn't. (since the truck pullout would have came with an automatic)Then i had a really good lead on an ls6 from a c5 z06, that fell through do to shady dealings... So i stepped back from everything and did all the research, planning etc into making a 1uzfe-t.....Had that ready to go (and budgeted up) while looking for random stuff on craigslist, I cam across a hell of a deal on this ^^^. Its out of an 01 z28, so it comes with the 241 heads, ls6 intake, ls6 maf, ls6 oil pump. bigger injectors than 99-00 and a few other minute changes.Has the fbody transmission with the shorter tail housing, which is what i wanted (even comes with a hurst shifter.) Came with everything but the ECM, but there are a few of those on ebay for like 90 bucks without exchange so im not too worried.. I kept the whole swap thing sort of a secret as i didn't want to be another guy who talks a big game, then never even buys the engine. (lol) So i decided to keep it mostly under wraps until I had the deal made. Preliminary plans are to swap the car, keep a/c and run the engine as is. I shouldn't need to rebuild it, so i'm planning on waiting a couple years before the rebuild, then at that time I may try to track down some 799 or 243 heads and a bigger cam for another 75 horse or so over what this things already putting down. BOOSTED88tsi
sweet. Get ready for made fabrication of transmission tunnels and crossmembers. Do a rack swap while you at it. In the next couple of months we'll go from having just johns car. To 3 other 3 ls1 cars running around.

I wanted this project JUST for the fabrication part of it. thats the part i enjoy the most of these things... I was planning on doing a 240 rack swap similar to yours. but ill be using the rear sump pan and notching the firewall similar to what john did. not 100 percent on a cage or anything yet. but the car WILL have a/c. my blue car will continue to be my DD haha so i wont be out a SQ while i work on it, but it will take probably 6 months or so just to get the motor stuff done. I plan on enjoying this project Edited March 1, 2012 by Frenchi934

Frenchi934
Picked up an s14 steering rack and cross member today. pulling the motor out this weekend (finally) and going to start on the rack swap http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/7093/sdc11882u.jpg http://img542.imageshack.us/img542/1137/sdc11884l.jpg http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/1619/sdc11883l.jpg Edited March 25, 2012 by Frenchi934
yokomo
forget the rack swap, do an entire s13/14 cross member swap and front suspension. then you can just buy CNC mounts that bolt from s13/14 to ls series blocks.cut out the wheel wells, i know your not afraid to cut, your going to have to cut the tunnel anyways so get hacking. Imagine having the versatility and suspension options of the s13/14 instead of being stuckwith the few crap options for the starion. Not saying you have to use DAFT Innovations but Rich is on top of this field. hes done the work for you.http://www.ls1swapkits.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=172 while your cutting start planning to V mount the radiator. it will pay off after its done. Im watching you like a hawk KID!just my 2 cents.
Frenchi934
I dont have the money to swap in an entire 240 subframe at this point in time. Im going to run something similar to what john does with his car with a notched firewall, except im using a 240 rack. The "premade mount" thing is sort of a moot point, because i want to put the engine in a place that lets me have 50/50 or very near that weight distribution and even if it was designed that way for a 240 itd be a complete fluke if it worked out that way in this car..Not to mention i can make my own mounts for half price or less. One day in the future I plan on trying to adapt some double wishbone suspension from an s2k or an fd, but for now since i am a poor college kid ill be sticking to what i can get done on a budget. so far its, car for 500ls1/t56 complete pullout for 2000seats for 360and steering rack/crossmember for 74 i guess what im saying is im doing this project to build things. and For now ill build what i can afford, but if im going to put in the effort to swap suspensions it wont be for multilink. It'll either be pushrod or double wishbone Edited March 25, 2012 by Frenchi934

Frenchi934
Then really got into the nitty gritty. After moving my mound of spare parts out of the car I had some more room to work. http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/4116/sdc11947.jpg Got all the dash stuff out and pulled the harness: http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2886/sdc11950n.jpg http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/97/sdc11941i.jpg all that through this hole wasnt much fun. but has to be better than putting one back in.. haha http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/3268/sdc11944.jpg Then back to the bay: http://img543.imageshack.us/img543/3595/sdc11945y.jpg http://img85.imageshack.us/img85/7471/sdc11953d.jpg Edited April 21, 2012 by Frenchi934
Frenchi934
Then today, i crawled under the car and did the not so fun job of taking out the fuel tank vapor line. Then removed the steering linkage, box and crossmember. http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/4476/sdc11954.jpg http://img585.imageshack.us/img585/435/sdc11967k.jpghere are some interesting pictures comparing the 240sx crossmember/ rack and pinion to the conquest cross member and steering linkage. http://img269.imageshack.us/img269/752/sdc11964h.jpg http://img703.imageshack.us/img703/2765/sdc11965d.jpg http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/1233/sdc11966o.jpg Edited April 21, 2012 by Frenchi934
Technology
I always thought the 240 rack was much narrower than the stock one, but they appear to be nearly the same. Can you take a measurement of them please?
