awdaniel
I'm so happy that you revived my car. It makes me happy that you were the one to buy it. It's been about year and a half, and although I will always miss driving the Conquest, you deserve credit for the outstanding renovation. I can't say enough how good a job you and your Dad did on this car. It's a good feeling that the car went to someone who really cared about doing a quality job. Thank You for a job well done. Frenchi934
Since the last update. Ive put the car in a couple shows...got some love here: http://frivolousmoto...-zero-meet.html and hes planing on doing a mini feature on my car later this month. I also put my car in the MOPAR southern classic and won two awards in a MOPAR only show. -young guns (for car builders under 25)-and Best in class for RWD 79-2003 (there were vipers in that class) (picture was taken almost an hour after the event, many people had left) http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/3662/dscn0782x.jpg Heres other pics from the event: http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8753/dscn0696.jpg http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/4098/dscn0699w.jpg http://img526.imageshack.us/img526/8932/dscn0703h.jpg http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/1218/dscn0743qn.jpg http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/3513/dscn0776l.jpg And today I got my SHP wheels in, polished and repainted (in a factory ish color) First i tried this silver color and it was just too light, so I had to redo it (luckily i checked after doing 1 wheel) http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/4654/sdc11702b.jpg New paint on the left, old silver color (too light, from above) on the rightThe correct color is "Graphite" http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/2818/sdc11703ie.jpg In the process of polishing: http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/1108/sdc11705o.jpg Taped up ready to paint: http://img534.imageshack.us/img534/5228/sdc11707k.jpg Finished product: http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/1667/sdc11710e.jpg http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/6198/sdc11711.jpg http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/4577/sdc11712.jpg http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/2503/sdc11713jo.jpg Edited December 5, 2011 by Frenchi934
Killtodie
Why did you completely enclose the wheel when you painted it? I recently painted my winter tires and just put on an extra layer of masking tape on the sidewall. Had no over spray problems using rattlecans.http://i.imgur.com/JnugV.jpg
Frenchi934
The cardboard was the box they were shipped in. Since they were all similar in diameter i cut the hole in it and used it for every wheel...it saved on tape AND made sure i didn't get over-spray on anything i didn't want it on. (rattle cans aren't as bad, but if you've ever sprayed a real paint gun the paint goes EVERYWHERE...so i may have just been paranoid, but it wasn't any extra work to take precautions). Ron Burgandy
pulling an engine and trans together is pretty easy. and its alot quicker than trying to pull each sperate and putting them back together under the car. imo. atleast it is in 5.0 mustangs and other v8 cars. so im pretty sure a light weight engine like these are easier. Frenchi934
pulling the engine and trans as a unit in this car with its short, wide engine bay while having the car on jack stands would be a nightmare. The engine would be at a really gnarly angle to clear the radiator core support and you'd have a hard time getting that angle without scrapping the trans along the floor unless you have it sitting really high on jack stands. I'm not sure it would be any quicker to pull them together. You have to crawl under the car to take out the drive shaft and loosen the trans cross member one way or the other....at that point its only like 6 or 8 bolts to have the trans out... The trans in this car weighs like 80 lbs. it was very very easy to pull between two guys laying on our backs under the car. I wouldn't be scared to try it by myself either. I doubt Id ever try to pull them as a unit. Edited December 28, 2011 by Frenchi934
dmyers151
I've installed the engine & trans as a combo, and it's tough. The angle is pretty severe and the oil pan scrapes on the core support. It's a 3 man job. As for pulling the trans alone, so long as your not a twig, you should be alright. I'm pretty small @ 5'8" ~160lbs and I've pulled big block auto transmissions alone.
Frenchi934
The guys at racefriv.com were cool enough to put me on their website. You guys should check it out. They're just finishing up their first year and starting to put out more content.
