Frenchi934
Since last update i've been playing around with the vinyl cutter at school haha. Here are a couple stickers I cut. Theyre all something I drew myself on the computer, but all of them are influenced EXTREMELY heavily by other peoples design. I know ive seen something similar to the Death starion sticker before but couldnt find it again to give the original person credit. Maybe D venable? anyways here they are: Domohttp://img535.imageshack.us/img535/1541/sdc11521o.jpg Death starionhttp://img232.imageshack.us/img232/5310/sdc11516pq.jpg My favorite character from star warshttp://img41.imageshack.us/img41/1593/sdc11537h.jpg I also bought some 83 tail lights from a salvage yard you'd be jealous if i told you what i paid for them theyre in better shape than my 89 conquest ones were (even after I refurbished them) http://img38.imageshack.us/img38/6909/sdc11556n.jpg Then I went and did a photo shoot. full size photos in links under each in case you want to wallpaper: http://img148.imageshack.us/img148/7149/sdc11574adjusted.jpghttp://img151.imageshack.us/img151/7149/sdc11574adjusted.jpg http://img852.imageshack.us/img852/7396/sdc11580adjusted.jpghttp://img21.imageshack.us/img21/7396/sdc11580adjusted.jpg http://img52.imageshack.us/img52/1492/sdc11594t.jpghttp://img641.imageshack.us/img641/3250/sdc11594x.jpg http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/8084/sdc11605adjusted.jpghttp://img193.imageshack.us/img193/8084/sdc11605adjusted.jpg http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/4011/sdc11606.jpghttp://img714.imageshack.us/img714/9721/sdc11606d.jpg Edited April 26, 2011 by Frenchi934

Blue
I know I'm sorta digging this thread up, but this is a thread that NEEDS to be remembered and reread, by EVERYONE. Tyler, you are one of the greatest inspirations to me, and just reading this makes me want to get out there and get to it. Thank you for this thread, and congrats on a well earned car. Frenchi934
My mom got a new camera so I shot a few pictures playing around with the settings...heres a cool one i got: http://img709.imageshack.us/img709/561/dscn0131copyj.jpg After putting some miles on the car and (theoretically) letting the timing chain stretch some I decided it would be a good time to re torque the head again (2nd time) and check the degree on the cam. (Plus I also had to fix a leaking valve cover) http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/8215/sdc11632k.jpg http://img89.imageshack.us/img89/9107/sdc11633h.jpg http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/9783/sdc11635v.jpg And amazingly, after checking it all out, it was less than half a degree off on the intake centerlobe. So I didn't even have to install my adjustable cam gear haha Another thing I've recently done to the car is make sure the A/C is working in tip top condition. Previously it had a little too much freon in it, So I had to let some of that out. The other problem was that it never fully shut off the floor vents inside the cabin. So after checking to make sure the flapper door wasnt blocked or sticking, I checked the lines for vacuum leaks (found none). I did however find that this (pictured below) vacuum solenoid was leaking around the long boot (not the internal one, it has two). So I RTV'd it and let it set up. My dad was even nice enough to install it all back in for me while I was out . Now the flapper doors all work properly and it moves soo much more air through the dash vents now that the floor turns off. http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/9097/sdc11630a.jpg http://img546.imageshack.us/img546/1470/sdc11631g.jpg Edited June 4, 2011 by Frenchi934

Frenchi934
Exhaust time: I've been wanting to do this for a while. So i finally sat down and did it. I built a complete system with a divorced downpipe and straight through muffler. The downpipe design is supposed to cut down the turbulence created by the wastegate opening. Short parts list: heated 0216 gauge wire (to wire it to the car after mounting it 36 inches downstream)3 3" mandrel bent u-bends from summit (summit brand)1 4' long 3" tube from summit (summit brand)1 3" straight through (round) Dynomax muffler1 1.5" mandrel J bend from summit (summit brand)custom flange that I drew on CAD and had my friend cut out for me at work2 rods of cold roll steel from home depot (for hangars)3 longer wastegate bolts2 3" ball flanges from summit (summit brand) oh yeah.... and 4 days worth of taking time to cut, weld, grind, reweld, refit and make sure its right. (Would have gone much easier if we had a lift) but it wouldn't have cut more than a day off the project. So here's a few pictures of the process. None of the tip just yet. But I just finished it about an hour ago. http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/3871/sdc11644.jpg http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/8872/sdc11648i.jpg http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/9744/sdc11649.jpg http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/5290/sdc11645n.jpg http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/5379/sdc11655o.jpg http://img827.imageshack.us/img827/9495/sdc11656y.jpg http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/8650/sdc11662r.jpg http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/3706/sdc11679.jpg I used a coat hangar to make a template for the hangars, then duplicated the shape in cold roll steel using a torch and pipe to bend it http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/7472/sdc11680g.jpg http://img718.imageshack.us/img718/3998/sdc11681t.jpg http://img14.imageshack.us/img14/417/sdc11682r.jpg Last I did the divorced section of the downpipe: http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/5659/sdc11683.jpg http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/7595/sdc11684v.jpg http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6908/sdc11686d.jpg I tack welded in a small plate to seal off the wastegate opening. Trust me, its reversible if need be.(I used the disk to protect the turbine wheel from any slag, which would imbalance the turbo) http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/2772/sdc11688t.jpg http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/9497/sdc11689g.jpg Finally, I Painted up all the welds to protect from rust. The rest is aluminized so It should be fine. I kind of dig the "raw" look this gives it. http://img810.imageshack.us/img810/5343/sdc11690y.jpg Heres the clearance with the downpipe: http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/4206/sdc11691e.jpg Finally, I would like to say that I know a few of you might not agree with this exhaust design. But please don't bash me in this thread. Its a proven design used by many other communities and I invested a lot of time and effort into doing this. So far the results are speaking for themselves. It spools a LOT quicker, isn't much louder than my 20 year old muffler, and hasn't given me a problem yet. If it does I'll be sure to post about it and contribute the knowledge to the community. Thanks for reading! Can't wait to see everyone in Pigeon Forge next weekend!

Technology
Why would anyone diss your exhaust? That's ballin out of control. At first, I was about to yell at you for leaving the dump tube open, but the next pic showed that you recirculated it, and that is so nice. Open WG dumps are ultra annoying. I had that same dynomax muffler, and it was nice and loud, especially after several years of duty. My exhaust did not extend past the muffler and it droned terribly. My re-done exhaust pokes out several inches beyond the rear bumper and it's a humungous difference in the car. Here's mine, really ugly, but it works and sounds amazing:http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/data/529/medium/DSC03249.JPG
randy
That looks very good u had a plan and u executed it really wellMy hats off to u on your complete restoration project. How is the clearance under the car?
Frenchi934
Technology: I was actually suprised at how quiet the system was....Its really not very loud at all (I was expecting it to be louder. Im sure as the packing in the muffler wears out it will get louder though) The tip on my exhaust sits about a half inch past the bumper so that probably helps a lot with the noise, (and hopefully the soot that always got on my rear bumper with the stock system). Thats a pretty gnarly downpipe you have yourself! haha I feel like exhaust doesnt need to be pretty, as long as it functions well. Randy: The ground clearance isn't too bad. I tucked it as close to the car as i felt comfortable, but bewtween the larger diameter pipe and the lowered car, it hangs lower than I'm used to seeing. I'll snap some pictures of the tailpipe and the ground clearence when I get home to show everyone. One thing to remember when making hangars...it will droop about a quarter of an inch after you let it hang (haha). The one just behind the rear cross member could be tightened up about a quarter of an inch to help a little, but overall I still feel like it has good clearence. I havent scraped on anything yet and i've been over a few speedbumps just to see if it would (lol) Thanks for the complements guys Edited June 29, 2011 by Frenchi934
Frenchi934
Heres a few pictures of ground clearance and the exhaust tip. The tip was complicated, as we had to angle it from the muffler to come straight out of the bumper, then we had to do a pretty complicated cut on the tip to get the angle "right" with the bumper AND get the slope cut look that I like. A HUGE THANKS is in order to my Dad, who was very patient and a huge help in getting this done. Few things contribute to high tension more than being outside, under a car on jack stands in 90+ degree weather, and I know I wasn't easy to work with, but he stuck in there and had really good advice to give. http://img40.imageshack.us/img40/2569/sdc11694v.jpg http://img580.imageshack.us/img580/760/sdc11695n.jpg http://img135.imageshack.us/img135/5540/sdc11697n.jpg http://img861.imageshack.us/img861/1817/sdc11696.jpg http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/5016/sdc11698p.jpg
