Well...the motor is out...proof will be posted below.

But...an idea has popped in my head that I'm having trouble getting out.

I have a brand new 360 sitting next to the car on a stand (should be about 350-400hp) and a 4 speed on the ground beside it. Would make for a very interesting RWD conversion.

What should I do...haha. Keep it how it is, just fix it? Or...do the v8/rwd conversion? I would keep it looking stock as possible, just to surprise people :P

  • 4 months later...

Well...little bit of an update on this...

turns out the original engine needs rebuilt, so, I stuck it in the corner for future use...and I sourced up something a little more potent :)

Also, car is all sanded down, just about ready for primer, then paint. Just have to fix a few rusty spots on the roof. Other than that...its near done.

As far as the engine, though...what I sourced up was a full GLHS setup. An entire engine, computers, and harness from 1 of 500 Shelby Omnis. And this one has a stage 2 computer and a little larger turbo and was dynoed at 193hp and 221tq at the wheels and ran 14.0s on street tires spinning 1st - 3rd.

So, it ought to be fun. Oh...and that dyno run was done at only 14psi of boost...turbo is capable of a bit more :)

GLHS's were in the 13s stock on slicks back in the day, don't see why it wouldn't be possible for this one. So...I'm looking forward to it.

Also...I'm lowering the car. Lowered the rear so far on RSX skunk 2 coilover sleeves (in the pic)...the front will be dropped on 1G Neon struts with the same skunk 2s once I source up a set.

Here's a pic of it as of late. (Dec 15th) More progress has been made since then.

Thanks guys! And...the GLHSs had the 525 transmission, which is why they limited them to 175hp :P A 555 was never in a L-body from the factory.

I have a 555 here that I'm going to use, though. I have to use axles from a 1990 automatic Omni to make it work, though.

But, I do know for sure its a GLHS motor. Has the valve cover and all, and I know the car its out of. GLHS #168 :) 42k miles on the original motor.

Haha...I hope you're right Dale.

As long as it'll shut these Honda kids around here up...thats all I'm worried about. :P

Oh...and did I mention it will still simply say GLH on it. No turbo designation. :)

Because race car, of course.

Still in the garage doing body work...lol The patch in the roof is a pain getting it straight again.

Basically looks the same as the above pic.

I kinda pushed it off to the side for a couple weeks while I get my soon to be daily driver 510, running and out the door :)
