well, just pulled the one front strut apart, cut the stock spring to relieve the preload, and the rest came apart fairly easy.

Had a different type of gland nut I haven't seen yet, but it'll work GREAT with the mr2 inserts, I'm thinking the strut might be a gabriel, it didn't have a name on it, but it had a contents under pressure, blah blah something about shipping label on it.

The insert was more than 3.5mm above the end of the strut

Illumina wasn't quite 51mm down

I'll pull the other front strut, and do some cutting and welding tomorrow B) I had to fix our sweet mailbox today

ok, this weekend hasn't been as productive as I had hope for on the car, yesterday I went in to work, so that took up a good chunk of time and energy.

did get one of the front struts 99% done though

ended up cutting a total of 2.25" out

Cut

Aligned

welds on the perch aren't pretty, but I think they'll hold

some food for thought...

That's clearance to the stock front struts, but with the coilovers, and mr2 shortened housings, the spring collar will be right at about the height of the rim lip. So I've got some 5/8" (16mm) bolt on spacers in the mail, but I'm thinking those might not even be enough, if they aren't, I'll get some 25mm spacers, and run the 16mm ones out back. After I fold the fender lips over, I should have the room, plus, I could pull the fenders some, and it won't look bad (no double flares)

hmm, -15mm and -6 combined offsets, on a flatty, hehe

yep, I hope to have it running and on the road within 2 months. I should be getting a call about the title soon, and the motor is at the machine shop getting bored out .030 and the pistons/connecting rods assembled, so I should have that back within a week or two.

Suspension will hopefully get buttoned up this weekend, weld perches onto both rears and mod the pass front strut. Plus I gotta get a measurement for custom rear brake lines.

Then I need to build the bumper supports for both ends, mount the radiator, mount the intercooler, finish the floorboards, do a couple patches in the engine bay, route the 89 engine harness in and get it connected to the 85 chassis harness, finish interior panels, rear seat boxed in for battery and sub(s), swap drivers door, locate good hatch struts, get speakers, install radio, etc.

the main thing I want to do though is get it on the road, I can do without a radio for a while, as that can be weekend projects after it's running.

ok, was running around this morning (ran out of welding gas again, lol) and stopped and got a section of 2.25" OD exhaust tubing to take up the slack between the coilover sleeve and the strut body

Now it just so happened that the tubing was tight against the strut, so I didn't have to run any electrical tape there, I actually gave it some soft taps with a flathead and a rubber mallet to get it to go down...

Now, 3 times around was just right for a nice tight fit to the sleeve, so top and bottom it was...

I kept the tubing just short enough so I could still utilize the set screws the Cosmo's came with

And assembled ready to go, 1 down, 3 to go

Just as suspected, the tire hits the collar/lower perch, it seemed to seat all the way and still spin, until I went to torque down the lugs. I'll still get everything together, and put the spacers on when they arrive.

That is quite the list. It is going to be a sweet car once you get those "minor" details completed!

well, I have the pass. front strut ready to cut, I came in for a food break. But I decided to set the front end down anyway.

I raised the spring up on the driver's side to where it wasn't rubbing the tire too (another inch or so up.

I'll get the other front strut done tonight, then finish the rears tomorrow, and proceed to drop it on the ground B)

got the other front strut cut and all welded up now, just gotta do the exhaust tubing and install the sleeve and insert.

http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P2200354.jpg

after that, I decided to see how it turns, and it looks like I'm gonna have to pull the fenders, or step down to a 205/50, or both, we'll see

turning left the tire hit hard, since the bottom of the fender at the back is rusted away, it pulled it away from the body down there as well

Here's where I ended up with the collar/lower perch

http://www.26liter.us/gallery/albums/userpics/10030/P2200353.jpg

turning right, the tire clears the fender
