Speedy2222
So this issue goes back a ways for me and has really been the only issue with the car thus far. It did it really bad last year, changed fuel pump, 89 knockbox, and coil. I also found distributor wiring that had rubbed through and was grounding out. After changing all of this i have not had any issues with the car losing spark, until today. Pulled onto a service road to go to a shopping center and as i was cruising along in 3rd the car completely died. Checked over all visible wires and checked plug connections but everything was tight. tried cranking it but the tach stayed at dead zero. after a couple minutes the car started right up and i drove it the 15 miles home with no issues. I feel like i've covered pretty much all my bases for stuff to replace or check for wear, any input would be great. I might also add that everything on the engine has been rebuilt or atleast cleaned/refurbed as of this time last year and is in good working order, but not much else on the car has been touched yet. Starfighterpilot
You have an '87 Starquest. Check the ignitor to see if it has a plastic cover. If so it has been shown and experienced by hundreds of other SQC'ers over the years that this ignitor does do what you experienced. You have to get a '88 or '89 ignitor from the Parts For Sale Forum or post in the Parts Wanted Forum to correct this problem. For What It's Worth. vbrad511
Cleaned your fusible links lately? You may have one heating up and losing contact.
Starfighterpilot
Remove Fusible link box 2 and pull the electrical metal male terminals out of it and check them and the fusible links for evidence for corrosion or melting of the plastic fuse box. Also do the same thing to electrical connector A-33/34. Ya might also want to replace the # 1 fusible link for the fusible link 2 box Ignition circuit connectors. See FSM, PAGES 8-102 & 8-104. The fusible link may look good externally but it's degraded under it's insulation. For What It's Worth. KEN
