Hey guys,

I called the local dealership and the number for the spindle fix did not come up. It says it's obsolete. Does anyone have another part number or availability to this item?

Thanks,

Lance.

MB092181 SPACER

MB092179 NUT

You already have the spacer and the nut is not intended to be reused,

after in has already been torqued to 217ftlbs,(according to the FSM)

All you need to source out is the steel teflon coated shim washers.

You might need to remove .005 to.020 off the end of the spacer for the shims to fit without binding.

Use a micrometer and measure the OD of the large end of the spacer and look at mcmaster carr or a place that specializes in fastener hardware http://www.mcmaster.com/#steel-shims/=iuyexl

I could not find a shim that had teflon coating

I found a moly coat paint that heat cures

mb664032 is NLA by Mitsubishi.

metric-man is correct in that the stock spacer can be modified by turning down the tapered end by .075-.080"

My stock spacer measured 2.992" long. The mb664032 spacer measures 2.915" long.

The specifics on the two PTFE coated steel washers are: 1.220" ID, 1.652" OD, and .036" thick.

I currently have requests for quotes out to three venders who custom stamp shims. Will keep you informed.

I cannot find any source of coated off the shelf washers. Didn't think about applying the coating myself...a possibility but doing a quick google search on it doesn't show positive results. The following part number from mcmaster is a shim that would most likely work if coated: 98055A325

Note: turning down the spacer to the dimensions above are only applicable if you find the same thickness shims. If the shim is thicker/thinner, then you need to compensate on cutting the spacer, accordingly.

The coated washers are the key. Without the coating, the problem won't be cured.

Thanks for confirming that kev,

and keeping us informed if you find a vendor that will fabricate the shims to spec with the coating.

The 300 degree cure for the moly/teflon would probably upset the kitchen environment.

I'm always on the lookout for a used oven to bake these type of things outside of the living quarters.

I might try using a convection toaster oven I have in storage for this purpose.

Just an update:

I sent three RFQ's out for custom washers with the teflon coating....all returned as no-quote, lol. However, I sent some more quotes out to coating companies to have those washer shims mentioned earlier from mcmaster-carr teflon coated. This one is promising.

One of them was a local vender that I've used before in the past (work related). I talked them down to $100 lot fee for coating + the price of the washers of course. A bit more than I wanted to spend but this coating is looking promising. I'm going to double check the dimensions on the axle shaft tonight. If the mcmaster shims will work, I'm going to order 25 of them. The coating cost $100 regardless if I coat 1 or 25, so might as well get more. So I'll have $150 invested into it but I'm sure that there would be many members here willing to purchase my extras in order to recoupe some of my money.

Will keep you guys informed.

just curious if you guys use this..... or even if it would be the Miller special tool made for the spindle.

I have had it forever and used it maybe 2 times and dont recall why or on what part.

So you got them coated? How did they work out? Do YOU have some forsale.?

Thanks

Wow I cannot believe it has been this long since I did this! Felt like it was only a few months ago. Anyways, yes they work great. I contemplated getting a new batch coated and offering them for sale but the last year of my life has been turned upside down while I changed careers, relocated, etc. I just haven't had the time to focus on anything car related besides browzing these forums....it's depressing.

The place that coated mine was called 'metcoat' if I remember correctly, but I'll have to pull up my notes to double check. It was $100 for the coating but they will coat as many parts that will fit in their basket....you could literally coat hundreds of these for that batch price and sell them away and make a few bucks to spend on other starquest parts.
