I have an older style oil pump and a the more recent one. I dont know if the old is off a whole different engine or like an 83 but its the one where the pickup tube goes into the block and not directly into the pump.   Any benefits to using one over the other?

Is there any methods to test a transmission other than installing it and driving it? I picked one up with my spare block, from what I can see the syncros are in good shape, all the gears look fine, everything is clean.   But you never know if it has bad bearings or makes a lot of winning noises like my old one did but it also had visibly worn syncros.   Any way to test a trans?

So I guess I can stop pretending I'm working on a friends truck. This arrived on saturday. Was a gift from my grandma who can't drive anymore. Looks rough but it's not. It's a 1991 Toyota base truck with only 62k miles. Mechanically it's perfect. I fixed where the rats had chewed on the engine bay and replaced the stolen catalytic converter. Doesn't look too dirty in the pics but I spent 2 hours pressure washing it. It's been over 10 years since it was washed.   Gonna keep it mostly stoc
