Driving home the other night and my dash lights went off, washer & ABS light stayed on but the dash went dark.. a few miles later they came on, then a minute later... off again? Any suggestions

I have noticed a few speedometers that the tab broken on the reset counter for the trip odometer.Is this common?Is there a cheap fix?
