Front Tokico struts too long

I went to replace my struts today and found that the new Tokico replacements would only allow the gland nut to thread about half a turn before hitting the strut. I called Tokico and they told me there must still be parts in the strut housing and to check. Well nothing there, so they said maybe I have an older style strut housing so remove the spacer on the insert. Did that and now it's too short. After about an hour on the phone they gave up. National Cylinder Head

These guys are not good to deal with in the warranty department...here's the deal.
I bought a non-jet head from these guys, with solid lift valvetrain. The solid lift has been my saviour a couple of times so far.
I have had problems with the cam cradle bolts loosening, and the first time, it was easily repaired by heli-coiling the bad bolt holes....the complaint was a knocking from the top of the engine.
This time, it sounded like the lifters were way out of adjustment, and they were
