  1. Not adding anything to the post, as Mike's description is great, as usual.... But please refrain from posting in all caps. It makes your post hard to read, along with coming off with the impression that you're "yelling".
  2. If you go to NAPA or even Advance Auto Parts or Auto Zone, they still have the high pressure line available. It's pretty inexpensive as well... I wanna say it's around like 30 bucks.
  3. If you look in the FAQ section especially, along with the section for model info, you'll notice that this information has already been available for a long time. Anywho... here's a decent rundown. I wouldn't say that the 88-89 system by itsself will handle "very high boost". You'll still slam into fuel cut at ~15psi or so. Every car is a bit different. "Fuel cut" is actually MAF over-run. This is taken care of with the installation of a 1G DSM MAF. The fuel mapping is better than in an 87 unit. The larger waste gate spring is set @ 10.5psi, not 11.5. Also, 10.5psi on a stock 88-89 5psd is only seen above 4k RPM. On the 88-89 automatic cars it is 10.5psi all the time unless the car detects knock, in which in both 5spd and auto cars, the boost kicks down to 7.5psi. 88-89 ECU's are effectively the same, and will provide no benefit. If you're running a completely stock car, you won't notice a difference swapping an 88-89 ECU into an 87. You'll only notice a difference when performing other mods. The wastegate is the same for 88-89 as well, no differences. The switching of boost level between 7.5 and 10.5psi is controlled completely by the knock box, and the ECU has no control over it. Auto and 5spd ECU's are the same, along with the ignitor. The difference is 1 wire leading to the knock box. The climate control screens are swapable... The older screens have a ground wire that runs down by the radio, where the later models have the ground wired into the harness... but they'll work with either controller. There is a difference in the later models that it has the ability to blow warmer air out of the floor vents, and cooler air out of the face vents when in the face/foot blend mode. 86 models run a different fuel injection setup (although it physically looks similar). Please use the search function to read up more on this. The rear spoiler is the same for all widebody models. The front spoiler is the same for the 86-87 models, and is a three piece design. The 88-89's are a one-piece unit. The 86 models have manual seatbelts, where the 87+ cars had automatic belts. The 89 cars had automatic down driver's side window, and 3 point seat belts for the rear outboard passengers. The seats are the same for 88-89, the 86-87 seats are the same. This is just some of the running changes that were made to the widebodies from 86-89. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take a look in the FAQ section and the model information section, like I said before, all this information has been posted before, and is easily searchable.
  4. Be very careful if you go attacking that with a dremel... you can very easily cut into the flat mounting surface... and then you'll be replacing it because you can't get it to stop leaking. The hammer/chisel method is a lot easier, although if you get stupid with it, you can still gouge the metal.
  5. Pull the car up to a wall or your garage door. With tape, mark the physical center of the headlights onto the wall. Now back the car up (make sure that the surface you're parked on stays level) ~5 feet. Turn your headlights on. See where the beam hits in relation to the tape marks, and adjust accordingly. An actual aiming tool is available to help you, I think I've seen it at Harbor Freight. I can't remember if I've seen one at like Auto Zone or another parts store. Also, any shop should be able to do this for you for a pretty small fee, and they'd have the aiming tool as well. BTW, the aiming tool isn't necessary, it's basically a suction cup with a couple levels on it.
  6. The wiper motor is mounted right on the firewall. You don't have to remove the black cowl piece. There are 4 bolts that hold the wiper motor in place. When you turn the wipers off, do they park in the same position every time? Or, do they stop kinda wherever they feel like it? If you take the cover off of the wiper motor, you'll notice a plastic disc with teeth on it. It's got a metal contact that goes across it... and there is another metal contact on the cover piece. That is what tells the wiper motor where the parked position is. That area is packed with white lithium grease. Over time, that grease dries up and gets pretty nasty (that also effects wiper speed to some extent, they don't move quite as fast as they did when the car was new). It also can cause the wiper motor to not get a good connection between those two contacts. When that happens, the wipers will stop wherever they please, instead of the parked position where they should be.
  7. There is a resistor that regulates fan speed. On the "high" setting, the fan recieves the full 12v, and power doesn't route thru the resistor. When the motor only works on "high" that is the most common problem. When under manual control, yes, the fan only has two settings, high and low. When in automatic mode, the fan has something like 8 speed settings... if you look in the factory service manual, it goes in depth about fan operation, shows how many steps the fan has, etc.
  8. I asked him about it a few days ago. He likes 'em, says it's a little harder to get them to break loose at like 60MPH. lol
  9. Keep this dialog going while I go get some popcorn.
  10. You do know both weed and alcohol are both classified as depressents, right?
  11. Unless you ordered from Mitsu, it's the wrong one.
  12. Don't bother with an auto to manual swap. Instead of ruining an auto shell (there are people out here that like the auto cars, ya know) just sell the car and buy a 5spd.
  13. I've had two of them, an 86 and an 89. The 89's are pretty friggin' rare. Not as rare as say an 89 Starion, but pretty damn close. They share nothing with a Mustang SVO except for the engine... IMO, the Mustang SVO doesn't even come close to the XR4Ti. The XR4Ti is a much more comfortable and better handling platform. They're a blast to drive, I'd definately pick it up if I were you. They handle awesome from the factory. The auto in those are somewhat delicate, of course the 5spds are just as delicate. The XR4Ti community is very similar to the StarQuest community, same type of issues that we commonly face.
  14. Oh please, we pegged that sucker about 6 years ago.
  15. I know you're eager to put your car on the road... but why not save up a few more bucks and get the correct tires? That seems way more logical than just getting some wrong-size el-cheapo tires that will make your car handle funky? If you use the logic that "I'll just get these to get on the road, and then here soon get the correct ones" that's even more money wasted.
  16. The engine wouldn't hydrolock. Fuel is a liquid, just as water is. It is roughly the same consistancy, and will flow thru the injector the same amount, and in the same pattern. No, the car wouldn't run if there was a lot of water in the fuel mixture, but it would just be pushed out of the exhaust valve while the engine is turning over. Using the logic that water sprayed thru a fuel injector will cause a hydrolock condition, if you ever had a missfire, then that would also cause hydrolock. Remember, the mixture is compressed and then ignited. Also, water injection is a popular choice to help cool combustion chamber temps. Drain the tank, change the fuel filters, and you'll be fine... no harm, no foul. Going thru a puddle and sucking a ton of water into the intake is a totally different story. You're sucking potentionally an entire cylinder's worth of liquid into the engine. Of course that's going to bend and break something. If an injector flows 550cc of fuel... it's not going to instantly flow 2 gallons of water.
  17. There are a couple Euro cars that are the same way (Mercedes Benz comes to mind). The hoods actually have two heights. They've got a more normal hood hight, for when you pop it to say check your oil. Then, on the hinge, there is a little lever that you pull that lets the hood stand straight up like that.... Specifically so that major services like pulling the motor or doing a head job is a lot easier.
  18. Heh, sorry, I was just messing with you... should've added a smiley face at the end. Trust me, we've had WAY worse from people that supposedly had no learning disabilities. Our board does have the ability to do spell check, but it is an add-on that is installed with Internet Explorer on that specific computer. When making a post (or when replying, if you use the "full reply" option) there is a button that has an ABC over a check mark. It is grouped with the other formatting buttons just to the right of the font settings. Click that button. It'll say "ieSpell not detected" or something to that effect. Click "OK" and it'll take you to a download page. Download that add-on, and then you'll have spell check abilities on this board. I'm bad at explaining things sometimes, just click the button and it'll walk you thru everything.
  19. I might as well be first.... Learning how to spell and create a sentence might help.
  20. I understand the whole wanting to be near familiy. My parents moved from Indiana to Florida. Even though I actually lived 2 hours away from my parent's, that's a lot different than 16+ hours. I left a job and a life, and a relationship I really enjoyed to be closer to family. In a lot of ways, I regret moving. I'm not the type of person that regrets things, but moving from Bloomington is the only one true regret I have. I've been in Florida for over two years, and it still does not feel like "home". but I digress.... Honestly, if you re-read your posts, you've already made your decision... you just need that final push to walk out the door. There is so much more to life than work. Ya, working hard so you can retire early is dandy, but also remember that tomorrow is not promised. Think of it this way, if you die tomorrow, how would you feel about how you lived your life? Based on your string of recent posts, you'd kick yourself in the tail for all eternity. Life is all about balance, and you're way out of whack at the moment. Not to take a low shot, but look at the problems with your ex-girlfriend. In the end, the only person that'll give you that kick in the tail is yourself. Half the anxiety you'll have is in making that decision. Once that part is over, you'll feel a weight lifted off of you.
  21. Yeah... sorry Brenden, I'm never coming to visit you. I'm terrified of spiders. My own personal rule is to not trust anything with less than 2 legs, or more than 4.
  22. I don't see it at all as getting heated. Besides, even a heated discussion isn't by itsself reason for a thread to get locked. Everyone is being respectful, there is no name-calling, childish posting, etc.
