  1. I think the T56 size talk has gone on before, and about everyone knows that the floor/trans tunnel will have to be modified. That is why I was first asking about/suggesting the T5, as it would fit no problems. And is just as tough.(depending on model)
  2. Considering they are both Borg-Warner, probly not. But I am not positive. That is just some of the info I am tring to find.
  3. As far as clutches go, I do not know. I do not know the mustang world at all to be perfectly honest. I only know the GM world mostly. Also remember that you will be using the stock flywheel. As far as hydrualics and the T56 goes, the ones that I HAVE seen (the GM ones) have a hydraulically operated throwout bearing. This may be the same for Ford, I do not know. Read first paragraph line 2. Again, shifter location I know is important, but I would be willing to bet that it will be moved back an inch or so, THIS ALL DEPENDS ON THE ADAPTER. When I get very clear information I post it. Joe is gonna be pulling that trans tomarrow (I know I said he would be doing it today-we all have a life besides cars) if not tomarrow, he said this weekend at the lastest. When he gets me that information, I can compare it to the T56. I will call the place tommarrow to see when he could have a proto-type ready after I get him a viable mold to use. Now... Conquest351, this is for you... You said that you had these trans laying around correct? If so, I NEED MEASUREMENTS. Cross reference measurements something, anything that I can use to put into a cad form. Measure both if you can, if the bolt holes are far enough apart, I can dual tap the housing to accept both trans. Also, since you have these at your whim, when the proto is ready for testing, I will probly send it to you, as I do not have one of these trans, and it would be a pain for me to get ahold of one, and I will not buy one, as I am ditching the 54B. If it works, great, post-er up. If it needs something changed, let me know. If you would like to take care of it down there great, if not I will pay for it to come back up to Joe or I for us to make changes to. Then we will send it back.
  4. Shawn, I know exactly what I am getting into. Yes there will be a prototype cast and tested. You can take your comments about quality elsewhere. As far as shifter location, I cannot give an answer, and neither could you given the situation. We are adapting a transmission that was not meant to go into this car. Transmissions are all different. They all have different demensions. If someone whats a better transmission then the one that they have now, they may have to deal with modifacations. As far as what will be compared is the following... 1. pilot shaft relation 2. Total length 3. Possible shifter movement 4. Possible crossmember modifacation/replacement 5. Demensional differences. Width/length/height As I said before, your comments are welcome to a point. I do not and have not questioned quality of your products, or meathods. Do not do it to me. Do not try to bad mouth something that I am tring to do, I am not bad mouthing yours. I went to the boards asking what THEY wanted to use(transmission wise), not designed and told them what had to use like you did. I am not looking to get into a pissing fight. I just don't care. If push comes to shove, I will get mine made for the '63 and be done with it. I do not come on to the boards offering things that I do not plan on doing, or would not run myself. I also do not charge hefty prices either. I gave mine straight out, as per what the foundry gave me. Am I making somethingout of the deal? yeah, about $10 bucks per, that's about it. I am doing this to give something to the boards, for all the help and information they have given me. I am not looking to get rich off the boards, that's not my thing. I am not going to say another word to you. Everything is settled in my book.
  5. if you can get me a diagram em and other members will be overjoyed ;D On the GM trans, this is what I have seen... I got to poking around On Ebay, and looking at the L60E, the bellhousing IS REMOVIBLE. Also, I NEED CONFIRMATION FROM SOMEONE, but looking at the 2 with the bellhousings off, they seem VERY CLOSE, if not the same mounting flange. AGAIN I NEED CONFIRMATION FROM SOMEONE THAT HAS ACCESS TO THEM. Or, 2 cad/tech drawings that I can compare. At this time I will not promise or preach that they are the same, they just LOOK IT. SO time for another decision. Do YOU want to go with GM or Ford T56? I am making no judgement calls on any of this. I need a housing for a different motor, so this is all for you guys. Also, we might want to see if the 2 T56s' have the SAME flange? 351, you want in? you seem to be helping out alot with this. Which I appreciate greatly.
  6. Ok, so the 54B is first in line. A bellhousing is no biggie, I can get a manual housing from Joe, I think he is pulling the trans out of his 87 this weekend anyway. OK.... So I see T56(we all know this has massive compasity) and the L60E I will change the topic of the thread next to cut any comfusion at all. And I will start adding names.
  7. No... People are interested in 3 trans for the 4G63... at least that is what I thought... GM T5 Ford T5 GM Auto. Hell, If people want to get interest going for adapters for the 54B, bring it on too. It can happen after the 63's are done. And will be alot easier as I have access to a housing, so the only change would be the trans mounting plate. So I quess for clarifacation.... RIGHT NOW this is for the 4G63 swap... After this is done 1 run, I will be more then willing to do a G54B housing as well. Or if interest is on the other end more right now, the 54B will happen first allowing me to get funds up for the 63 housing. Ok... so Now (again for clarifacation) post the Engine and trans to put to that engine. Sorry if it was not clear before. Also about time frames, I was told that I could expect delivery (depending on numbers) 15-20 would be done within a week after they get paid to make them. If there are 25-plus, expect longer waiting times, but he promised the latest would be 3 weeks. Unless we hit him with like 75 of these...
  8. I cannot agree more with everything you just said. Hense why the very first line I put was "What trans do YOU want to use" And the way I will be making the mold, it will lend it self to just about anything you could want to bolt to it. You just have to do the figuring where to put the holes(Talking about a "blank" casting here). I will make everything BUT the trans bolt to plate. I will need a size that will be a "Cover All" to make that plate. I want it big enough so that these things can be drilled and or modified to fit just about anything that a person would want to try. Right now I am looking at around a 7"W by 5"T plate. Speak now it you think the plate needs to be bigger, or if you know that the trans YOU would like to use needs a bigger plate. I am really glad that 351 said what he did, cause that gave me the "blank casting" idea... and those that come after will be glad about that as well.
  9. Ok, I will put this forth... What I am seeing is this... 1/3 for auto's 1/3 for T56 1/3 for 'stang trans. sad but it looks like this? am I wrong? Anyway... I am sure that conquest351 can provide templates to the mustang guys right? So the T56 guys need to find a template? right? I can ask around some and will post what I find. I need info from all interested. I need mounting plate diameters/measurements. Pm it to me or send it to davepatton42@yahoo.com and I can see if I can post it. What I would like to see is hosted pics. If someone can take a picture of the plates with measurements that would be of a great help. I will scour the yards again tomarrow, and see if I can borrow a camara. Again, depending on the number people involved, we can get these for around 120-150 EACH! If you are members of other boards that are looking for adapter housing, POINT THEM TO THIS THREAD. The more the merrier.(and cheaper)
  10. I know about different input shaft lengths, that is a concern with me about offering the "blanks". The person would have to know EXACTLY how wide a spacer they would need. As far as the blanks go, what I was going to do is have a generic flat spot for the trans mount, and it would have a 1/8" pilot hole that would locate dead center in referance to the flywheel. If a person wants a blank, STILL POST, and you know exactly what you are getting, so clutch and such is all on you to find things that will work. Afterall, they all start off as blanks... ;D
  11. the prices are for the entire housing. cast. milled/drilled. Again, depends on numbers.
  12. Oh my god... Just oh my god... prepare to hit the floor... Seriously... put down a group of pillows... a mattress something... I just got prices... ready? 10 will be around 225 ish EACH Ok, you back up yet? waiting... ok ready for more? 15+ 175 EACH... 20+ he said well... just imagine. He said as long as I can provide an accurate mold, a run will cost around 3500. So this can become a VERY PERMINATE THING. get word out, must get word out... imagine if we hit 30-40 people on this? we're talking like 100 bucks OR LESS for an adapter... Yes, I will have him make extra 5-6 depending on the final cost tally for those that need to wait a little bit.
  13. Shawn, thanks for the info, but nothing I already did not know. The place is offering milling to get true and flat, and has offered to drill the holes. So in a sense, I would be getting close to bolt on ready housings. Your comments are welcome, but only to a point. Tim_C, can you get the L60's without the bellhousing? I do not know thats why I am asking. If so, then hell that's what I am gonna do.
  14. Actually... that gave me an idea.... Can you get me bolt patterns of the trans you have access too? I am thinking this... I can have the bellhousing made... the trans mounting can be drilled for multiple trans, IF I HAVE THE PATTERN FOR THEM. This will also HEAVILY depend on the ACCURACY of the pattern that I am provided with. And no holes withing 1/4" or so of each other. OR, I can just provide a blank that will bolt to the engine, and people can do whatever with them... Post you idea's on that as well.
  15. What trans will you like to run. YOU. Keep in mind, I would have to be able to get ahold of it to make a pattern for the foundry. What the deal is, is this. I just got off the phone with a not so local foundry and asked a few questions. If I can take them a mold to cast off of (they suggested wood) they will charge $400 for 1, and "heavy" deals for multiples. He asked for numbers, and I told him I would have to find out first. So this is for YOU to decide. I have the means, and the skill to produce the mold, what do you want to use as the trans? GM T5?(more popular and availible everywhere) Ford T5? (I have seen a few, but not as many as the GM ones) So the poll is on. Do not ask about pricing, I do not know. I have to have a "Iron clad-No regrets-you back out I'm goona shoot your eye out" kinda number before I get prices. I told the guy that I could have the mold to him by Friday, I made no commitments to anything or anyone. I am going to get this for my car if nothing else. If interested, put name and trans. Also I will be adding side note as this progresses--- this is the first... I have seen the V6 GM T5 handle 336/38X with ease. www.thirdgen.org has a Turbo 2.8 that is using it, and there is a 4th gen 3.4 that has dyno'd in excess of 300 Hp, 350 Trq that is using it. #2 This will not be moved to the GP board untill serious interest in shown. This is for here only for right now. #3 I can also provide Blank trans ends that you could have drilled by a machine shop Names of "IN" manual T-56 Chad Barbercb Artinist Silvrstar Grey_wulf Shelby- Mr Dodge-Ford Backslider Turbo26tsi Automatic L60E Tim_C Booted One ZPI28 11 so far... 225 ish... lets get more people.
  16. I have been to your site DJ, and S L O W is not the word. Yes it would be nice to have a central location for the info pertaining to this swap, but everyone that has a 'Quest comes here. On to other things... As some might know, I am doing this swap with another former member. I searched the yards, he searched the yards, we only found 1 option. An 80-81 D50 with the 5 speed to swap internal parts. I have asked on DJ's site but no one is willing to give up some much needed info on transmissions. According to this thread, 2-3 more have been found that will work. 1 from a mitsu van that none of us will ever see(which sounds like it would be best too- Sad) the japanesse borg warner and something else. I think that the discussion needs to stay here. This board is just flat out a live wire for info like this. More so then any other site I have been too. What needs to happen is that this info needs to be collected, copy paste(giving credit to those that did the original discovering) and put on here in a sticky thread. And any new information needs to be included as well. And just to give the price range that Joe and I are dealing with... under 1400 for EVERYTHING, including fresh forged pistons and complete rebuild. Best, or for the money anyway internal parts. The only thing we have left to deal with is the transmission internal parts swap and buying/hooking up the wilwood reverse hydraulic actuator. Everything else has been ordered/paid for and waiting for arrival.
  17. glad it is nothing truely "serious"
  18. well is the fiberglass showing signs of cracking? Depending on how the hood was made it may be that the bolt may be pulling loose from the fiberglass setting. Either a weak anchor, or maybe no anchor was used. I do not know, as I do not know how the hood was made. But if No bolt anchor was used.. this issue is a matter of time rather than if it happens. I do not know the cause for sure, just giving possibilities knowing what I know about building composite parts. Try explaing to a higher up that a panel that one of your people made flew off in mid flight and took out a multi-million dollar jet engine... Caused by not having propper reinforcement.
  19. Like the last 2 replies... DO NOT USE REGULAR STRIPPER ON URATHANE PARTS, THEY WILL BE EATEN UP. They make Urathane specific stripper USE THAT.
  20. I run diamond cut on one of my other cars. Actually both sets, lows and highs... People think low is high beam until I blind them with the high beam... I have quite literally been warmed up on a cool night by turning on my (cars) head lights..
  21. well honestly I would like to know what's going on as well. I have not been able to get ahold of either of them in about a week or so. I gave them everything they needed... I will stop there...
  22. bring back from the dead as I think this will become an issue again with the latest BB GP going on.
