  1. I attended this event for the last few years and 2012 was the BEST yet - there were enough Starquests to have our own class & trophies (9 or 10, I think?) It was GREAT to spend the day looking at cool cars & meeting the owners. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/loli_cat/Rodan/100_1921.jpg This is a pic from 2011, btw - only a handful back then!
  2. OH. MY. GOD. You wouldn't lose it in a parking lot anyway...
  3. Sold last night - fortunately to someone from mitsustyle.com who already has a 3000gt so it's in good hands...
  4. The local Mitsu dealer has just gotten in a clean stock '87 Starion with only 68k miles on it. White with red leather interior, 5-spd, AC works and reportedly no rust. Dealer has it listed online for $6790 but the salesperson who took it in is offering it for $3988 to members of the MN Mitsu club. Someone PLEASE buy this car and save it from being bought by some dork and riced up before they blow the overboosted engine... >_< Facebook listing here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10100244782745669&set=o.372443909492689&type=1&relevant_count=1&ref=nf The dealership is White Bear Mitsubishi: http://www.whitebearautos.com/used/Mitsubishi/1987-Mitsubishi-Starion-89f3b9350a0a00de01c34cfed4ce7304.htm
  5. Needs vents in the hood for flow-through but, worse than that, it needs some sandbags in the rear so those d00ds can get out of the trunk!!
  6. I don't see in the ad that it drives - with the list of things it needs, it wouldn't be very safe if it did. That said, damn, I would snap it up if it was near here...my car needs new tires...if I took the tires & hood off of this everything else would be cream, even if I just parted it out.
  7. My coolest find was an in an old 1959 Cadillac convertible I'd bought. I was down on the floor under the dash working on the wiring and under the front edge of the carpet on top of the transmission hump was a 1959 quarter! I like to think someone stuck it there when the car was new. Weirdest find: was under a 3-month old Chevette and found 3 vice grips holding pieces of metal together - also found a magnetic key box with keys in it (which did not belong to the owner),,,
  8. Let's start at the beginning there. Yes, a lot of money was spent. But making it seem like NASA's budget comes from the "Good And Charitable Things Fund" of the US Government is inane. No one's taking money from other needed projects to go to NASA. And, people tend to have a wildly exaggerated idea of just how much of the US budget goes to NASA. A 2007 poll showed most Americans think it's about 25%. The reality? In 2011, it was half of a percent. That's half of what we spend on foreign aid. It's about 1/50th of what defense gets, at 24.8% of the budget. Nobody's taking money from anything to fund NASA. And regarding where that money goes — I can't think of any government agency with more tangible results for money spent. In the case of Curiosity, money is budgeted, and they sent exploration robot to Mars. It's pretty clear where the money for the project went, because it's a physical, tangible thing that works. They had a plan to send a robot to Mars, they got money for it, and did it. Wanna open an investigation? http://jalopnik.com/5932213/why-its-great-we-send-robots-to-mars-and-why-people-should-follow
  9. That's incredible Curt! I think last year there were only 5 or 6 so that makes nearly 2x as many!
  10. Seems like all the money but it DID sell, and look what people are shelling out for the hood. Hopefully these scoops will be used to restore an original hood with broken scoops!!
  11. Oh NO! Flakey paint?!? LOL... Here's a few pics from last year you can think about: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/loli_cat/Rodan/100_1948.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/loli_cat/Rodan/100_1945.jpg http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/loli_cat/Rodan/100_1923.jpg The idea is to get a bunch of Mitsu cars & owners together and have a good time! It's certainly not a concours car show or anything... (GRIN)
  12. Colt turbos are AWESOME!! You should come over to the twin cities and attend the all mitsu cookout in August! Everyone would drool on your car!! http://mn3s.org/all_...ubishi2012.html
  13. Unless the leather is actually broken, you can buy leather lotion and save the seats. Any lotion with lanolin in it will work. I personally used turtle wax emerald green at walmart. Anyway, squeeze it on the leather and swab it over with your hands. Just goop it on. Then let it sit for 20 mins or so. It will disapear. Do it again and again till it stopps soaking in. Then get a clean cloth and wipe it to a nice shine. You'll find the leather is softer and more flexible. I've saved lots of leather seats this way. If you do it to GOOD leather seats every year or two they will never crack, btw...
  14. Just a thought if you're still thinking about replacing the airdam: http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y43/loli_cat/Conquestfrontoff.jpg
  15. Welcome back to the fold! We should save that pic of the airdam replacement in the newbie section!! You can't imagine how much work it is till you go through it. My friend bought his conquest back in '87 and fragged the airdam in only 3 or 4 months. Took it to the bodyshop and cried...the cost to paint and install the dam was about 4 or 5x the cost of the actual part! I remember sitting around at the body shop all afternoon watching them do it...
  16. Air dams, pfft...unless it's really broken up, I'd try repairing it. You have to remove about half the front end to take off/put one on! Looks like a very nice project if you can get it for under $1k but just a warning: I haven't found ANYPLACE that knows how to work on starquests. You have to learn to service them yourself. If you can find someone nearby that can help you, it will be a godsend. As far as sitting awhile, sometimes you win sometimes you lose. I bought mine with just under 38k miles on it and it had been driven maybe half a dozen times over the past 15 years. Well, I performed all the preventive maintenance and aside from a small oil leak it runs fine. These cars can be good reliable runners if you fix and maintain them right. But if you don't they can be a never ending source of trouble and expense. Oh and finally, I'd NEVER think of using one for a daily driver. For one thing they're tricky in the rain and downright impossible in snow and ice. Between that and the difficulty of servicing and finding parts they're best to be enjoyed as a weekend collectors car kind of thing or at the very least a summer car only.
  17. Sweet car! My best friend bought a Conquest back in '87 and he sold it to me last year. Since we were living together back in the day and I drove the car a lot, having the car now seems like meeting up with an old friend again. Anyway, welcome to the board and I applaud you for keeping your car for so long...it demonstrates the love we have for our cars here!
  18. If anyone makes it to one of these meets, post some pics...Chicago is a 6 hour drive from Minneapolis and I need some motivation to drive over there!! ^o^
  19. Just to add my two cents worth; this is an AWESOME event! Where else can you hang out & talk cars all day, eyeball lots of sweet rides, meet other starquest owners & swap stories...plus there's the food and prizes!! Come ON!! If we just get a few more Starquests signed up we'll get our own category and trophy!!
  20. Hm, you know I hadn't thought about this...last year down in Branson everybody was running with their windows down in that wicked, humid heat while I had my AC cranked on. I just thought they were macho and I was a wimp. (yeh, a cool, comfortable wimp!)
  21. Really? Looking at the headlights makes me think of an '85-86 CRX but yeah, it's kind of like an EXP/LN7 too...
  22. LOL, don't forget your white patent leather shoes!! Man, I'd pay good bucks just to RENT this for a day and drive it to the Mitsubishi cookout! Certain to win first place in the OTHER category...
  23. We had a blast last year and part of the fun was puting about 1300 miles on the Conquest over a long weekend! I never appreciated what a great road car it was before - comfortable & good mileage!! It was also lots of fun to meet up with people from this bbs. I can now put faces on some of the names. A damn shame that the closest meet now is nearly 1,000 miles one way (Pigeon Forge)!!
  24. Only 4 Starquests though!! Come ON people!! Curt said if 8 signed up we'd get OUR OWN category!! (Otherwise we get stuck with the Mirages & Mighty Maxes in the OTHER category...)
