FYI here is a video that covers what is required on the type of rear strut we have on our 1988 Conquest. They are hardwelded sealed. You have to cut the top of the strut off to get the internals out. You can replace with insert but requires either be hard welded back or weld on a collar piece with threads to make it serviceable.

So we found something interesting on ours. We have an 88 Conquest with the regular (non adjustable) rear strut. What we thought was the top gland nut was actually a cap that was spot welded into 4 places. (that was why we couldnt get it off, it had to sheer off) In looking at the top of the strut the top neck of the strut was welded on the top, we cant get what is inside there out without using and angle grinder to completely cut the top off. What is really odd is it looks like you have the same non-adjustable strut but it sounds like yours hand a gland nut that actually screwed off? I wonder are there 3 versions of rear strut on these cars? I guess ours looks nothing like yours.

This is great news! Thank you!

Looks great. So with that combo (original factory strut housing + MR2 front insert), how did it compare measurement wise to factory height you think? Thank you for sharing this is big help!

You make any progress on this? We actually bought the same strut rear housings and inserts and just discovered the same thing.

Hi David, still looking for that front grill. I'll PM again. Thanks. Raymond

Still have it? Looking for the header panel (center nose piece between the headlights) + grill below. What condition are they in? Looking for a pair in excellent shape. Also do you have front lower air damn/spoiler piece (driver side) (87 three piece style) in good shape? Thanks. Raymond

Will add that I'm looking for a driver side front lower air dam/spoiler piece (87 three piece style) if avail too. Color on any of these parts doesn't matter, I'll be repainting. Raymond

Looking for center nose piece between headlights and plastic grill below. What condition are they in? Thanks. Raymond

Can you tell me if you still have the center nose piece + grill and what shape it's in? Does the mitsu emblem just stick on the nose or is there a hole drilled in it to hold it in place? I have a conquest and would want to remove it. Thanks. Raymond

Need center nose piece that goes between headlights + plastic grill that goes below. Prefer Conquest over Starion (w/emblem) unless the emblem is just adhered on the nose and doesn't have a hole to hold it in place. Looking for both pieces in mint condition or as close to it as possible. Thanks Raymond Gardner, KS

Do you have a center nose piece and grill that goes below it? What kind of condition? Prefer Conquest not Starion (w/emblem on nose) Thanks. Raymond Gardner, KS

Hi there, what condition is the center nose piece between the headlights? Is the mitisubishi logo just adhered on or is there actually a hole? How much would you want for it including shipping to Gardner, KS? Thanks. Raymond Gardner, KS -
Thanks for the sharing and posting the info, this helped me get mine troubleshooted and fixed up in under an hour. I had to replace my internal air filters as mine were disintegrating as well. In my case I just bought a lawnmower sponge filter and used that to make mine. I now see that with the cruise control working so much more accurately I know now the filters were affecting the operation and performance of mine. The reason mine wasn't engaging was because the rubber/nylon stopper (for the cruise control disengage switch) on the clutch peddle was missing allowing the switch to fit throught the hold there for the stopper. I purchased this little rubber grommet from Ace Hardware (95 cents) and modified it. (what's not picutred is I had to trim the retaining flange taper to get it through the peddle hole. http://www.rayman4449.dynip.com/Cruisecontrol_082209_640_0001.JPG I had to trim the head down with a razor blade so it wasn't too tall. http://www.rayman4449.dynip.com/Cruisecontrol_082209_640_0002.JPG Other than that I went ahead and put a thin layer of grease on the face of the grommet to ensure the switch would slide and not bind against the grommet.
