  1. Really cool listing that my brother just sent me. Thought you guys might get a kick out of it: MITSUBISHI STARION GSR-III 2012/10/28 Update FOB JAPAN US$17,690 Stock Number: 1001774A20110724W007 Location: Hiroshima Japan http://picture1.goo-net.com/7001001774/20110724/J/70010017742011072400700.jpg http://exchange.goo-...4007/index.html
  2. Well, it definitely has been a while since I've posted in any forum...so updates... Well, first thing to update is during the spring, the Clarkson Sports Car Club sponsored a track day (which actually turned out to be a track weekend) with some guys from the Sports Car Club of Vermont for $100. This took place at Saint Lawrence Motorsport Park, a 3/4 mile over sized go-kart track (layout which can be viewed here: http://www.slmpkarting.com/). The first day was beautiful weather, to which we all took full advantage of. I think I ran around the track about five or six times the first day, all with one warm up lap, 5 or 6 hot laps, and one cool down lap.The second day was torrential downpour from the morning until the evening, however. Even with the crappy weather, it was still tons of fun, especially since it provided conditions that made drifting much simpler. So basically, the second day was a full day of hooning around with my friends. Over just these two days, I put 75 miles on the Quest, which I found to be quite impressive. The third day the track dried out, and I set a time of 1:05.3 seconds. For comparison, my friend in an E36 BMW M3 set a course time of 1:03.5 seconds, and a friend in a highly modified new Volkswagen Golf GTI with Dunlop Star Specs set a time of 56.5 seconds. Here is a picture from that event... http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/227217_220246341324799_100000183055960_1050026_6557277_n.jpg After that, I ended up buying new front and rear tires since that one track weekend pretty much completely destroyed them. I also ended up replacing the clutch with an OEM spec one about two weeks after the event as well. Since this pretty much blew my budget altogether, I didn't do much for awhile. I however did a couple of months back take my car to a dyno day. Unfortunately the night before the dyno day, my car developed a rather wierd little "stutter" at around 3000rpms. This persisted through the dyno day, and this "stuttter" can be seen on the dyno graph that I received. However, for stock, I think that the numbers that this car made (on a mustang dyno) weren't all too bad. Here is a picture of the graph: http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/393489_338880522794713_100000183055960_1580244_2114471378_n.jpg To fix the hiccup, I replaced the secondary injector clip, since, I figured, the secondary injector wasn't opening when it should have been due to a weak connection. However, this did not solve the issue, and the "stutter" still persists. According to the dyno graph, which had an external o2 sensor hooked up via the exhaust pipe, the largest AFR recorded was 13.4:1 at the "stutter", still making me think that it is a fueling issue. However, I could be (and probably am) wrong... So that is what I have been up to so far.
  3. My family's dog Cassie who is a mix of Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, and Bernese Mountain Dog (only photo on hand at the moment that I did for an art class a while ago) http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/8232_101183583231076_100000183055960_34336_3972434_n.jpg
  4. One dude at a gas station asked if my car was an RX-7. I quickly explained to him what the car was, knowing that it is a bit of an oddity on the road and not something someone would see everyday. His response was "...So it isn't an RX-7 because it looks just like one of the older ones".
  5. Nice! Something similar happened to me two weekends ago. My college sports car club hosted a car show/cruise and I decided to bring my car to the show even though it still needed some bodywork done on the front end that sort of spoils the looks of the car (front panel has some major gouges in it that I had filled in with bondo and sanded, but I haven't primed or painted it yet). Well, it still got all sorts of attention and I managed to win 3rd best Japanese car, voted by all of the people who attended the show.
  6. I actually like my red interior quite a bit. Yes, it could use a bit of a refurbishing, but I'm still happy with it and I don't think I could ever switch it out for a different color.
  7. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs069.snc4/34792_190886570927443_100000183055960_797593_3991306_n.jpg
  8. Yeah, I could feel the gratuitous amounts of body roll from the car as I was going around the track. The results page is here. As you can probably see, it was actually more than one cone that I managed to hit, and the 76 second and 82 second times were when I managed to spin the car after being a bit too spirited through some corners. I do definitely plan to autocross in the future, but I'm not sure when or where though... This particular event was $40 for me to enter, plus one re-fuel to get to Vermont and back, which in my opinion is a steal for the amount of fun one could have at an event like this. I forgot to mention that I believe this particular 'fun run' was probably the fastest run of the day for me . Also I have more pictures. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs011.ash2/33935_165011080187597_100000361191660_384688_5034421_n.jpg waiting in line... http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs096.snc4/36149_171632872847557_100000025358843_579625_8157444_n.jpg from a different angle...
  9. Well, I am 19, so I am a teenager still, and this is the third car that I have owned, and I love everything about it. My first car was a third gen Chevrolet Cavalier with the 2200 OHV motor in it (originally my father's car) which I didn't care too much for. That was totaled four months after the title was transferred to me by a 16 year old girl running a light while texting while my father was driving my brother home from a hockey practice. My second car was a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX which was incredible fun until it was totaled in a deer accident. The Conquest may not have the sheer power that my WRX had, but so far this is by far the car that I have had the most fun with. The Quest looks incredible, sounds incredible (well after I fixed the exhaust leak), and handles incredible (from what I have seen while autocrossing). I also like how when my Conquest is sitting in a parking lot, I always catch people staring at it as they walk by, or getting the occasional "Sweet looking car dude! What exactly is it?" comments from random people.
  10. Well, about a couple of weeks ago me and a buddy went to see a concert near my house in Rochester. The concert was on a Tuesday (Black Label Society, Children of Bodom, and Clutch) and we needed to be back up for classes on Wednesday, so it ended up becoming sort of a quick day trip for us. We departed from my house after the show at about 2:30 in the morning, so all of the roads were completely deserted. Well, along the way back up to college there is this somewhat long flat straight stretch of I-90 around the Montezuma Wildlife Refuge, and there happened to be absolutely no cars on the road at this point. I decided that I would just see what the old girl had in her (with encouragement from my friend), so I floored it, and decided to let up at about 133mph (roughly) because I needed a new pair of undershorts. The other times that deserve honorable mention that I was in triple digit speeds include hitting 120mph in a silver 2007 Chevrolet Impala base sedan then later wondering why the speed limiter didn't kick in, and 107 in a red 2001 Chevrolet Venture (father was in the car, jokingly asked him what the top speed of it was, to which he replied "Let's find out!")
  11. Yeah, no problem. It was on it when I got the car, and it was hiding a couple of large spots on the front where the paint was chipping, so I just sort of left it on. I got some of the history on the car from the previous owner. Supposedly, the first owner managed to get into an accident where they had to replace some of the panels on the front, which they sourced off of a red vehicle. They painted those panels the proper color, but after a little bit of time, it peeled away in two very specific spots to the primer. Also, the front air dam is cracked slightly in one of the corners. The second owner blew a head gasket, and just had it sitting in his garage for five years, then the owner who I bought it from replaced the head gasket and drove it very rarely. I knew all of this while I was buying the vehicle mind you, but I didn't really care about the chipped paint on the front becasue I was getting a great deal on a great car that had low mileage and was completely rust free. But I will take off the bra soon, since I don't really like it on the car anyways.
  12. I swear that I have seen this very same abomination either in the Rochester or Buffalo Craigslist when I was searching for a car... If not in those particular craigslist listings, I have seen it before elsewhere because I remember thinking to myself "Why would ANYONE think that making their Honda Civic look like an M3 is a good idea?!?!?!", and promptly closing the tab because I couldn't bring myself to look at it anymore.
  13. I will check for cracks in the manifold, but for the most part, the sound has disappeared with the addition of new gaskets (gasket between the precat and turbo was blown to pieces, that little adventure can be read here: http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=111760]).
  14. Well, yesterday was in short, absolutely amazing! The course was set up on an oval track, and was extremely fast for an autocross event. For a run, you went around the oval twice, but due to the way it was set up, there were some differences between the first run and second run. Although I couldn't find either my still camera or video camera, The Sports Car Club of Vermont, who hosted the event, and some people from my car club did take pictures, and a couple of the drivers had mounted cameras. This is a guy in an old Volkswagen Sirocco going around the course later in the day. . My first run of the day, I took it somewhat easy just to test the waters with the car, and the course was rather cold and slick. I made it around the first time with no incident, and a very slow time of about 75 seconds. So, on the second lap, I went around much more aggressively. This resulted in me spinning on the second half of the run in the s-curves, and a decent amount of swearing by me. My third run was somewhat more aggressive than my first, but I only managed to set down a time of about 66.5 seconds around the course. After the third run, we switched from driving to corner working, and the other group (we split everyone into two running groups) raced around four times. One of the guys in a Honda S2000 hit a guard rail in the center of the track, damaging his car in an interesting way. Nobody was injured, and the car only had some body damage, no damage to the engine, and none really to the suspension, from what I could tell. He even drove the car back home with no issues. But, after the other group did their four runs, we switched again and our group did four more runs. The first run, I went into the bottom oval circuit corner a bit too aggressively, and put the rear end out. I tried to hold the car with opposite lock, but the car was too sideways for it to work. So, after a gratuitous amount of tire smoke, I finished that lap with a time of 80 seconds (lol). The second and third runs were about the same as my third run of my first set of runs, about 66 seconds. Then, on the fourth run, I finally smoothed out my line, and drove more aggressively without any major issues, and cut three seconds off of my time for a final run of 63.5 seconds, which I was rather happy with. After all of the timed runs were done, there were fun runs, which were $1 per run. Since I only had one dollar in my wallet, I only managed one fun run out on the course. These pictures were taken by one of the people in my car club during the one 'fun run' that I did.http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0244.jpg?t=1287956940 http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0245.jpg?t=1287956970 http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0246.jpg?t=1287956995 http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0247.jpg?t=1287957023 http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0248.jpg?t=1287957054 http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0249.jpg?t=1287957096 http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0250.jpg?t=1287957123 http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0251.jpg?t=1287957144 http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0252.jpg?t=1287957203 http://i1009.photobucket.com/albums/af213/ClarksonSportsCarClub/AutoX%202010/IMG_0253.jpg?t=1287957203 And throughout the event, I managed to only murder one cone! If I can find pictures that some of the people from the SCCV have taken for the event, and I happen to be in some of said pictures, I might post up those, as well as where I placed in my class (novice class), since none of that has been posted up by them as of yet (to my knowledge).
  15. Sweet! Yeah, I am definitely going to have to go next year because it sounds like such a good time.
  16. This sounds like it was an amazing time. Maybe if I have the money, and the time, I will go down to this meet next year. I'm definitely crazy enough to drive from the other end of the country ($$ permitting). Anyone else crazy enough to drive from NY and the surrounding states for a mega-haul of a drive next year?
  17. Congrats on the beautiful looking Quest man! Sounds like you have a rather solid plan for her too.
  18. Well, someone in my college car club mentioned that there was going to be an autocross event in Vermont that was a reasonable price to enter, and not too far away from where we are. Tons of people in the club, including me, decided that it would be awesome to go out and have some fun with our cars over the weekend. My car is in tip-top shape now that I inspected it with a fine toothed comb and replaced everything that needed to be replaced. Now, this is the first time I have ever entered any sort of racing event, so I am not sure what to expect when I get there and actually start racing. I am borrowing a friend's Snell racing helmet, so I am all set there. I just can't wait for the weekend! I promise to update and tell how everything went, hopefully with pictures and maybe video to enhance my presentation to you guys.
  19. If you want to go in theme with what probably would have been played in your car if you were indeed in the 80s and just bought yourself a Starquest, go for some Motley Crue, Van Halen, or maybe some Scorpions. But my personal favorite for trips is some Led Zeppelin, especially from my The Song Remains the Same cassette because it is just so awesome.
  20. Well, here is my final update about the problem. I went to the nearest Mitsubishi dealership, and managed to get the oil feed line. After installing it, since I installed everything else previously, I decided to take her for a spin just to see what sort of difference the new gaskets made. After varying amounts of acceleration, I noticed the sound was completely gone! I guess it was just a really nasty exhaust leak. Well, at least it wasn't anything serious that would have cost serious money. Once again, thanks everyone for your help on the matter.
  21. Thank you very much for the information. That is definitely what I will be doing tomorrow because that right now is all that is holding me back from starting my car back up. Right now everything is bolted back on with anti-seize and in order. While everything was attached, I did a boost leak test and found no leaks in the rest of the system. However, I am rather skeptical of that result, and probably will test for leaks again tomorrow.
  22. Well, yesterday my turbo gaskets arrived via the mail so I am about to put everything back together and do a boost leak check on the system to try and pinpoint a possible leak that I think could be making the noise. However, putting everything back together is at a standstill because I need to do something about the oil feed line that I foolishly snapped while trying to remove the turbo for a more thorough inspection. Does anyone have any suggestions to what I replace this feed line with? Any specific vendors/products that you tend to shy away from for such a replacement, or vendors/products that you swear by? I just want to make sure I don't buy something that fail on me.
  23. I've always liked these cars, for some odd reason. Maybe it is the sheer sleeper factor. Maybe becasue it was modified by the great Carrol Shelby. Maybe because I have always liked my cars on the eccentric side. In any case, such a great car you have and I am liking what you have done with it so far. Liking the wheel choice and how you are supercharging it, and I can't wait to see the car finished. It should be one heck of a beast once she is up and running.
  24. Once again, thanks for the kind words. So far since I have had the car, I have: * Changed the oil in the car (10w30 synthetic) * Changed the brake pads on all four wheels and checked the rotors in the process to find they still were fine * Fixed the play in the steering wheel, it was in fact the steering box, all of the tie rods and various other linkages were absolutely fine * Put new rear tires on it (the rears that I got with it were dry-rotted from sitting in a garage for five years), Goodyear Eagle GTs (what was somewhat affordable to me. The fronts had zero dry rotting on them and new tread, leading me to believe they were taken care of recently. * Flushed the coolant system, and changed it with a 33% anti-freeze to 67% distilled water mix per instructions on this forum * Currently in the process of tracking down the cause to a nasty whistle sound that is being made somewhere in the intake system (checked the turbo and the turbo was solid).
  25. ^ Knows through dark magic I tell confused people at my college my car is "basically a starion", and they get even more confused. < Really, really needs to get some sleep before he passes out on top of his laptop keyboard. V Is not amused by this thread.
