  1. Well, just to be clear, it's not a tan dash ... it's a maroon dash painted tan. It looks much better in the pics than it does in real life. If you're interested and within driving distance, PM with an offer. Otherwise, I was going to put it back in my parts car. Thanks for trying to help BC. I wish your dash had in fact been maroon, I was really hoping to go OEM, but I'm happy with this for now. I might do the swap again if I ever find a sweet maroon dash, it wasn't that hard.
  2. Which I why I made sure there was a glare on my VIN number, and the other one is off my parts car. Can't do much with that.
  3. Thanks ... at least I'm not the only one. I feel slightly better now.
  4. So, when I bought this car back in August it was is half decent running condition, but the interior was pretty much destroyed. Some previous owner tried to paint various parts of the interior tan. Through this forum, craigslist and eBay I've been tracking down new pieces ever since. I had to replace the head rests, door cards, center consel, radio surround and dash. Some of the parts I couldn't find, I repainted black with a vinyl fabric paint and created my own custom 2-tone maroon/black interior. I'm sure I'm not the first to do it, but, I think it looks pretty cool. The last big thing to do was to swap the dash. That was yesterday's project. Before http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/6530/dsc01959f.jpg http://img651.imageshack.us/img651/5461/dsc01958l.jpg Door cards (thanks StarquestJoe) http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/4479/dscf0801w.jpg http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/8596/dscf0804q.jpg http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/1797/dscf0805u.jpg 2 tone rear seat w/ black upper bolsters http://img257.imageshack.us/img257/1358/rear3z.jpg Dash Swap http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/4497/duringw.jpg http://img152.imageshack.us/img152/5036/afterc.jpg http://img32.imageshack.us/img32/9099/done1cx.jpg http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/318/done2i.jpg Feedback positive/negative appreciated.
  5. So, if I'm understanding correctly, the "up" position is fresh air, and the "down" position is heat/AC (hence the little fan symbol)?? If so, I feel stupid for even asking this question ... I've never encountered a car that does this. Interesting. http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2148/hvacvent.jpg
  6. Well ... it was pretty easy. I just drilled them out and reattached with new rivets. The old original VIN plate is in my hand, my VIN plate from car has already been attached to my new dash (photo below). http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/9351/vinplates.jpg
  7. 101propose on eBay is the only person is the only one I know of who is making new ones of these. Mitsu doesn't have them anymore. I haven't been around that long either though, so some of these other guys might know other places to get them. Here's a link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380266911873&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT BTW - I've bought 3 or 4 things from him so far and everything has been very nice and his shipping is prompt.
  8. Not really sure if this is the best forum for this question, but I didn't feel it fit any better in any other either. Anyway, I have an odd problem with my HVAC vents. The feet, window, and center vents all blow warm/hot air when the heat is on. The two outer ones (by the doors) blow ice cold air. I'm 99% sure it's fresh air coming in from outside ... but how? I've replaced the dash, and it was doing the same thing before and after the replacement. I thought maybe when I replaced the dash I'd find some plastic tubing messed up or mis-routed, but it's not. Is there a flapper or door that's stuck open somewhere? For now I just closed them off and it gets warm enough in the car, but I'd like to get to the bottom of it. Oh, and if it makes a difference, some previous owner removed the AC. Thanks.
  9. If anyone needs this. Seems like a reasonable price. Ends tomorrow 12/30/2010. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Starion-Conquest-OEM-Turbo-charger-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4cf403eef7QQitemZ330511412983QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories
  10. I had my car 3 days and took it took to gas for the first time and the guy at the station complimented me "Nice Supra". I laughed and said No, but my brother-in-law has one.
  11. When I'm done I'll post up with some pics of how I handled it. I'm finishing the dash swap on this coming Monday.
  12. Hmmm... interesting point. I have the *new* dash in my basement already out, and if I remember right the rivets are like a black(ish) and the plates are black. I wonder if I can find black rivets or just hit new ones with some paint. It's a shame I even have to do this ....
  13. OK, thanks all. That's about what I thought. Thanks for the confirmation.
  14. I was surprised to do a search for "VIN" and only get a few hits, nothing to do with swapping dash plate. Anyway, I'm in the midst of swapping dashes b/c some idiot painted mine. I want to switch the VIN plates so everything still reads correctly. I never done this before. Any suggests on how to remove both plates on each dash without damaging them? I'm thinking I can drill them out, or cut the rivet head with a dremel. I'm assuming I should be able to easily pop rivet it back on. I have a few days off after Christmas, so I'm hoping to do it then. TIA.
  15. G54B - How much for the turbo heat shield in the first pic if you still have it? (I bought from you before)
  16. Mine is supposedly on it's way. Anyone have one for MI_Mitsu?
  17. PM sent to Rickie Rich. MI_Mitsu ... I'll definitely post up after I acquire one. Thanks for being respectful of my thread and not hyjacking. I saw the one on eBay as well, but I wasn't impressed with the polish job, plus I'm not for one polished b/c i want to powdercoat.
  18. Bummer ... I must have missed it. You don't remember the heading do you? I'll do a search and see what I come up with.
  19. I've been thinking about getting one and having it powdercoated. Been meaning to get to the junkyard to find one, but haven't had the time. Anybody have an extra laying around and price? Doesn't have to be perfectly clean b/c I'm going to clean to coat it.

Also just had a good experience with him. Great communicator, fast shipping. Product was as described. Thanks.
  21. As already pointed out above, the 1.8's only came in the 1st gen 90-94's. So there's no way it's a 96 with a 1.8. If it is older year with a 1.8 tell him not to bother. That motor is terrible and it's a dog. He'd be better waiting. If it is in fact a non-turbo 96, then it's the chrysler 420A, which isn't a half bad motor (same as the 1st gen Neon), but it's not really a performance motor or anything and it's non-mitsu. The motors are completely chrysler parts. There is no threat of crankwalk on the 420A's, that was a 4G63 specific problem. The bottom end's are strong on the 420A, if there's going to be any problems it's typically with the head. Listen for a valve tap or other strange sounds from the head. If it's a stick, the slave cylinders go bad easy in them, check for a leak. It's right up front near the front motor mount. I have owned a 420A, 4G63 FWD and AWD Eclipse; 1st gens and 2nd. If you have any other questions, PM me.
  22. Well, you beat me to it. But, I'm glad you posted up the part numbers you found ... it only substantiates the part numbers I found as well. In the CAPS system I was using at my father-in-laws shop "24" was the code for Conquest/Starion. You can ignore "45" sensors in the middle of the page. I found one more than you did: The A/C coolant temp switch: MD102329 (which is also a shared part with vehicles 41,27,45; whatever they are) http://img253.imageshack.us/img253/4495/partsc.jpg There also seems to be an additional part # for the gauge unit, but I think the 1380(M/T) is the correct one. Not sure what the 91056 is all about.
  23. Believe me, I'm very interested in help. I have quickly found in the few months of owning my first two Quest's that these cars are vastly different than DSM's. In a way, I feel like I'm starting all over again. That's why I came to this site, it was actually recommended to me by others. So far, I have found Starquest to be the most helpful of all the online clubs I belong to. I was just pointing I realize there are online Mitsu dealers b/c of working on DSM's for so long. BTW - I have managed to track down all the mystery part numbers. I don't have the paper handy, I'll post them up tomorrow so everyone has them.
  24. And it's probably def not air in the lines because that would have all burped out the resivour by now.
  25. Cal ... I don't know what your deal is, I have nothing against you. I never asked for asked for part number, price, place to purchase or page number in the FSM, just whether a M/T coolant sender had one or two spades. That was it. (see post 1). I had all the other info I needed. Had my car not been 20 minutes I would have popped the hood myself and answered my own question. I just wanted to be sure before making a purchase b/c low and behold I have found some online info to be incorrect. Granted, I misspoke when I said "sensor", but I corrected that in post 4 to sender. I've been building DSM motors for over 10 years now, I'm well aware there are Mitsu dealers online. Can we move on now ....
