  1. Sorry guys, been out of town. Finally had some time to devote to this. This appears to be the culprit. Not sure what the technical name is for this relay, but there was a short in it. Thanks for your suggestions.
  2. Thanks guys. After I thought about it some more, looked through some info and the repair manual, and did some poking around I think it is the ignition coil. I also learned (for the fourth or fifth time) that the dealer isn't the place to go with these cars. For some reason I keep thinking they should understand their "stuff." Of course, I always forget that most of the guys working the shop were probably 10 years old or younger when this car was new. Nothing against them, but I'm sure they spend their time and learn about the new stuff and probably don't see much of the older cars (and certainly don't know the quirks). I just seem to forget that every couple of years. I just get nervous working on things I don't really understand. I'll let you know how it turns out or if I need more help.. Thanks again.
  3. I have an 88 starion with a manual transmission. A couple of months ago the starter went. After a month of sitting in the garage I caught it in gear to start it since I don't like to let a car sit for any length of time. The car started fine and ran for about a minute then shut off. I replaced the starter and the car started but ran really rough. I took it to the local Mitsubishi dealer who diagnosed it as the fuel pump. They had it for eight days and told me they were doing different diagnostic tests before they settled on the fuel pump. I had them also replace the fuel filter. I picked it up and it seemed fine. Next morning it is running rough and eventually shut off and won't start at all. I contacted the garage and they offered to take it back and look at it. Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience? Im starting to wonder if the Mitsubishi dealer couldn't figure it out and hoped a new fuel pump would fix it. I have never had a problem with them in the past but I hate to keep blindly paying for hours of diagnostic time. I'd at least like to offer a suggestion or two. Thanks. Rich
  4. I live in Meadville. I don't know whether oil or undercoating works better, but I have Maillard's oil all of my cars (except my Starion) every fall. The Starion doesn't see wet roads. It costs about $60 per car, but you can definitely tell a difference over the life of the car. I've never started oiling on a car that already had rust so I'm not sure how well it works in those cases. They have been doing it for 40 years. They have couple of different options, but no matter which one you choose it's pretty messy for a couple of days. Don't put the car on a nice driveway for a couple of days. They oil until the end of October. The best time is AM during the week. They get really busy on the week-ends, but they get people through pretty fast. They are at 27370 Lippert Rd, Cochranton I think. 425-3600. You don't have to make an appointment, but I'd make sure they know what you want them to oil (and not to oil), otherwise they get into the hood, door holes, around the engine, pretty much everywhere they find metal!! Indiana, one of the problems we have in NW PA is that it's pretty hard to get a car washed (unless you have a heated garage and a power washer) between December and mid-March. Everything is frozen up for months. Rich
  5. Thanks theRobot and Shelby. Not the most fun I've ever had, but it worked. Hope it never happens again because I'm not sure I can get the entire switch unit out of the dash hood. All of the screw ins are getting pretty brittle!
  6. Ok. I read through this thread. Everything on my lights works except the headlights. They pop up, they just doon't come on. The last thing I tried was the flash to pass. When I hold the lever in the lights pop up and the headlights DO come on. Would this lead me back the the switch or somewhere else?? Rich
  7. What kind of rims are these and what size?

  9. I need the door trim upper rear panels for both left and right doors (the trim pieces right behind the glass in front of the rear edge of both doors). They are part numbers MB47 8637 and 8640. I'm looking for ones in good shape. No tears or scratched. Pics would be good. Thanks.
  10. These look nice. I don't have any experience with carbon fiber so I'm not sure it is the right material, but any thoughs on trying to do something like this with the back shelf? I keep buying the best ones I can find, but the best ones I can find still sag. I thought about trying to create a shelf that is shaped the same, is firm enough to withstand gravity and maybe incorporates something unique into it ( a design, mitsubishi emblem, some starquest emblem, etc.) so that when you lift the hatch you would see the emblem. They have a boring trunk space IMO. Good luck with these. I would be interested in the radio bezel if you ever do these. Rich
  11. has not set their status
  12. Here is a picture of the piece of interior molding that I need. It is the piece right in front of the side window. The one in the picture is for the passenger side. I only need the drivers side, but if anyone has it but will only part with it as a set, that will be fine. The one that I have is in good shape but has a tear in it. I am looking for a nice replacement. I'm not sure if these pieces changed slightly over the years. It is for an 88 Starion. My compliments to ReneRobert (from who I stole the picture). Thanks. Rich
  13. drivers side. Its the piece at the back of the door between the drivers side door and the side window. Rich quote name='2manytoyz' date='28 March 2010 - 05:17 PM' timestamp='1269811025' post='1013936'] Dash is removed and perfect.Same as door panels, email me at jc198650@yahoo.com and let me know what all you need. Also to the gy with the pic,is that a rear seat side piece?Which side if so?
  14. I stole this picture from ReneRobert, but I need one of these for the drivers side. If you have one let me know what you want for it.
  15. Dave, Looking for an ETAC for a 88 starion. Got any? Rich
  16. where is this car located ???
  17. I bought a wiper motor several months ago from Lapore. The thing worked great. Last week-end I decided that the plate that the motor attaches to needed sanded and painted. I took the motor off and removed the plate. I then proceeded to drop the motor on the garage floor. It bounced up once (impressive vertical leap for a hunk of metal), then fell back to earth and landed on my daughters foot. She cried, but lives to tell the tale. Anyway, the motor doesn't work anymore. I have no idea what might have broken, and don't really want to try to figure it out. I'm looking for another one that is in good working order. I have a really nice plate to attach it to (not sure what they actually call the metal piece that the motor hooks to) Thanks. Rich
  18. Well, I bought her flowers, cooked her dinner, massaged her a bit, and did some other things that are probably not appropriate for all the virgin ears on this site . She finally succumbed to my pressure and gave in. Not sure what finally did the trick, but there was water somewhere. All is well in northwestern PA once again, except that it might snow tonight. Thanks for all your help !!!! Rich
  19. Did the powerwash on Saturday. Big improvement in appearance, but car hasn't started since. Maybe it don't want to get dirty again :confused0024:
  20. Thanks to all that replied. Rich
  21. Do any of you folks with lambo/vertical doors have a dual shock hinge (i.e. two shocks per door)? I know there are systems out there with dual 20 inch shocks per door. Those are not the ones. I believe those are weld-on hinges. My hinges are an older version bolt-on hinge that came with two 8" shocks per door. My hinge looks like today's bolt-on, except there are two shocks per door instead of one. There are lots of different 8-inch replacement shocks out there, but they don't look like they are compatible with my shocks. My problem is that my doors no longer want to stay up. I have been trying to locate shocks for a couple months now. The hinges were on the car when I bought it, and the prior owner told me the hinges came from lambodoor.com. I called them, but they claim they never sold a set like the one on my car. They did tell me that the dual shock systems have been discontinued and they don't know where to get the shocks for my system. I have called a few other people who sell the shocks, but they can't really tell me whether I can use their shocks in my hinge. Dave Springer sold me door hinges a couple months ago and I was in the garage last Saturday with the passenger fender off so I could remove the hinge. My kids really like the vertical look so they begged me to take one one more stab at trying to get the doors working before I switch back to an original hinge. I doesn't matter to me whether I locate a set of replacement shocks or if someone has experience modifying this type of hinge to a single shock. I like the doors, but I'm not willing to spend big bucks to keep them working or buy another set. Its a whole lot cheaper just to switch the doors back to the way they were, but my 10 year old daughter gave me that crocodile tear look so I gave in! Rich
