87quest'
i am replacing the head gasket in my g54b and i need to know the torque specs and what is the torque pattern?
Technology
for stock you should be good with 85 ft. lbs. You start with the middle two then start working outward in an X pattern front then back then front again, etcetera until it's done. But sometimes people go in three stages, like 40 lbs - 60 lbs - 85 lbs, so you basically do it three times.
vbrad511
Yes, in stages. And retorque after few heat cycles, before any boost.
Starfighterpilot
FSM page 9-28 & 9-30 gives the PROPER head bolt torque value and the torquing sequence. They should be torqued in two or three steps. I have always done it in three steps. But that's just me. Make sure that you blow out the head bolt holes to ensure that you don't have any crap in them which will adversely effect the final torque value. Any crap in the bottom of the holes MAY prevent the head bolt from threading to it's proper depth, which will give you a bad torque reading and possibly allowing the head bolt to eventually work itself "loose". Better safe than sorry. And also run a clean head bolt done each of the threaded holes by hand until it bottoms out, to ensure that the threads don't have any dings. For What It's Worth.
