gotmopar
Before you guys go all crazy on me, hear me out. I believe the suspension and the wide body panels are what is most different between the two cars. The interior, engine bay, doors, hatch and misc pieces are exactly the same. I have access to a RO4 85.5 and 86. Using the 86 widebody suspension under the 85.5 for a wider track if suspension mounting is identical nut and bolt affair. Use the widebody front airdam and where it flares out, design wheel flares similar in style to those used on the 82-85 supras. Not exact copies but created to accent the flat fenders and quarterpanels. Use polished widebody 7s and 8's. Most of the original side moulding is missing. I would choose to have a black vinyl graphic cut to mimic the moulding with the turbo-intercooled in front of the rear wheels and GSR-II behind the front wheels where the TSI usually is. Also thought of using the rear hatch from the widebody to have just center part of spoiler. This car would look like it was thought of as a mitsubishi design exercise to 1-up toyota guys in 85 before the intro of widebodys and new supras of 86. The bonus is the 85.5 is intercooled and LSD. This would blow a comparable equiped supra of same year out of the water if actually doable. Ok now laugh if it doesn't make you think it could really be possible as a creative mod. bring the pain--- good or bad. Figure this be the best place to get feedback due to the idea. shift1313
in the suspension forum sfbmx88 did a big writeup on the difference between flatty and wide suspension parts with pics. He is running wide body front arm on his 87 flatty with shp wheels(8s and 9s). There is nothing different about the rear, only the front. The lower arm, tie rod ends, struts, steering idler arm and of course the hubs. also the 85.5 has a different front air dam than the rest of the flattys. The opening in the air dam is larger and it is set back farther like the wide bodies. also zactek has a wide body air dam on his flatty with no fender flares if you want to see pics of it. http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/9339/rebuildpics080ac6.jpg also some of the aussie guys have small fender flares for their flattys. there is a member running an rx7 front (suspension) who is running these fender flares. a few years back i tried to make fender flares(or started to) but it just didnt look right so i abandoned the project. I wanted to make ones that would be add ons like you would find in that period. here is the 85.5 front air dam http://home.comcast.net/~Driftability/images/Komeuppance/855airdam.jpg here is my 84 which should be the same as the later flattys. http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj39/shift1313/Starion/bumper1.jpg i think it sounds like a neat project but if i had an 85.5 i prob. wouldnt do anything to it because they are hard to find:)
SOTTY
Not knocking your ideas or innovation, like shift1313 said these fab factory intercooled flattys are getting thin on the ground,i just got mine on the road with some minor performance mods and its a blast to drive, the stock looks are so 80's Jap and confuses the general public even more so than my widebody. zactek
Those 295's on the back look like steamrollers!! Damn that's mean.... :hmm3grin2orange: And he still has more room under those rear fender flares!!! Could probably get some 315's on there, hehe Zack
