lonestarion
early g54b rocker setups wont work on the later version of the g54bcam journal diameter is a few thousandths smaller, plus the rear cam block is different, as in it wont cover the backend where the head meets the valve cover. but the rockers, shafts, springs will work.rocker assembly i just picked up came off a 78 colt with the g54bthat has a similar valve cover as the 2.0 from the same years.79 80 is when mitsu made a change. TopDawg_43
If you are going to use different cam towers, you'll need to have you head lin bored. It's like useing different main caps. Or mis-matching your rod caps.
Indiana
you going to change your oiling? its all different on the early heads, smaller everything it won't work unless you have the early block http://www.b2600turbo.com/images/IM000538.JPG
lonestarion
my head doesnt look like that on the mating surface.in other words that gully on the lower part of the head isnt on mine.mine looks like the factory 2.6 head like this. valves are a lil bit smaller, but can go bigger. lot of meat in the port walls. no step like the quest head has in the exhaust port. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/tsi87supr60/...jpg&.src=ph i plan on milling out the trashed surface on this head & replace it with a good solid peice of aluminum. and machining out chambers & welding up the ports. maybe this weekend.[/img]
Indiana
they didn't switch over all things at the same time, that's another example of it, you have that casting that was to have that oil galley and it was to let the oil collect and drain from there into the block but they weren't going to throw heads in the trash so they just didn't cut it out and still used them until they were gone
