SHhhhh
let me know how this turns out. this will match the LED's in my turn signal, side markers, and third brake light
eeaston
Someone mentioned this before, but your should seriously look into Luxeon LEDs. They are by far the brightest you can buy. Of course they are more expensive but you can use way fewer with the same brightness.
JustPaus_88TSi
eeaston, yes the luxeon ones are very brite, but they dont have the right dispertion patern needed for a project like this. the idea with this project was to fill the lenses with light like what the guy had done on the eclipse. He uses Superflux LED's..http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=6596 You can't just say the luxeon's don't have the right dispersion.. Do you realize how many different type of luxeon's there are? You'll need to be crafty with heatsinks though..
eeaston
Justpaus is saying that if you used the luxeon emitters then you'd need to pay attention to heat sinking. They do offer several different pattern options, something like the lambertian style would work great. As you said, everyone has a different idea of how things should look, etc. It'll be interesting to see how these projects turn out.
blue_crush
i put mine in the oven. DO NOT PREHEAT  then just keep checking the lens seal, the glue will get hot and then just pry the two apart.
Big Al
If it's anything like the modern cars you might be able to bake them for a few minutes in the oven at a decently low temp and then gently pry them apart. (It's how I've done the interior lens cleaning for a few of the newer cars Eclipses and Neons and whatnot)
JustPaus_88TSi
Think about how hard sealant will get after 18-20 years.. It is NASTY stuff, takes a bit to finally "let go" by using many flathead screwdrivers or even better, a wide scraper tool.. The key is even pressure. Also, a heatgun is your friend and is my preferred method/tool BY FAR..
Milbot8000
I agree with JustPaus, I love the heat gun. One thing to remember tho, dont get the housing to hot, or it will warp or even melt. Just take it slow when you do it. Turn on the tube, find a good episode of Star Trek, get you a tv table, sum screwdrivers and a heat gun and go slow. starion0352
I've decided to try and take on the tedious process of making a full led tail light converson. I've started making a circut board that is the same size as the tail light housing that the LEDs will be connected too. The circut board is almost done, and now i just have to begin soldering the LEDs on the board :? my goal is to clear the tail light lenses so that i have clear looking tail lights as well, but we will see how this goes first. The plan is to have the whole tail light light up with red leds, and the reverse lights light up white. This is going to be a long process, so dont expext to hear much of an up date soon, esp since im doing an engine rebuilt at the moment too. I got this idea from seeing it on suburbans and 3000GTs. Hopefully it will look good when I'm done. I will post pictures when I get anything accompished and make a guide when Im done. Hopefully this will inspire sumthing later on. hey MilBOT8000 you ever get anywhere with this project? Milbot8000
yeah, I got about 34 of the way finishied with one tail light. I have the power box for each light too. College is really stopped this project b/c I dont have any place to work on it here at school. When I come back home this christmas I'm hoping to finish it up as a gift to myself. When its finished it will look awesome, but man, its taking forever
