Led tail lights

I've decided to try and take on the tedious process of making a full led tail light converson. I've started making a circut board that is the same size as the tail light housing that the LEDs will be connected too. The circut board is almost done, and now i just have to begin soldering the LEDs on the board :?

my goal is to clear the tail light lenses so that i have clear looking tail lights as well, but we will see how this goes first.

The plan is to have the whole tail light light up with red leds, and the reverse lights light up white. This is going to be a long process, so dont expext to hear much of an up date soon, esp since im doing an engine rebuilt at the moment too.

I got this idea from seeing it on suburbans and 3000GTs. Hopefully it will look good when I'm done. I will post pictures when I get anything accompished and make a guide when Im done.

Hopefully this will inspire sumthing later on.

Sounds like a sweet project! Please post pics... but I swear to god, there's already someone on the board who's done this... I'm almost positive I've seen pics posted somewhere. Check the galleries over on 26liter.

Or maybe I'm goin' nuts. Either way, post pics as you progress!

thanks for the post.

Im taking it one step further tho. Im making circut board that is the same size as the entire tail light lens, so that I sort of have the effect of a G35 coupe tail light. If I find a pic of a car that has a similar make up like what Im doing Ill post it first thing

That pic is exactly what im trying to accomplish. Im not shure about the Led size yet. Im kinda taking this project a bit slow b/c of the engine. Tail lights dont do you no good if your car doenst go. :(

I orginally thought of putting a 2 circles of Leds per taill light so that I would have the G35 coupe effect, but Im still kinda leaning toward a full spread that covers the whole lens.

What size Leds would u suggest Outcast?

Definately good info, HIDplanet is one of the leading resources on custom lighting, and is where I got most of my HID equipment..

But let it be known, you really do get what you pay for with LED boards. If anyone is looking to do this, please read everything you can in the LED section at hidplanet. In most cases, the cheap 5mm LED's will not work well in this kind of environment.. They will not last. Lumileds superflux, luxeon would be better suited... Albeit more expensive, but such is life right?

I should also mention that the guy above(Dave) has over $900 in his "LED project" and is definately above average when it comes to electrical circuitry, schematics etcetera etcetera...

I thought of making a new housing out of fiberglass. but I kno nothing about it. So I was going to use a set of extra housings off another quest. I'm might still go with fiberglass if I can get a guy in town to help me out.
