topher87
So I picked up what I'm told was an 88-89tranny. So I know that they have the thick pans but this one was gone guy told me he had swap it with his 87 one. So I went to look at the vin and their is no vin on it. So does anyone have the pics of the different inside parts I can look for?
ucw458
No vin = an older trans. 88-89 are the strongest followed by 86-87 intercooled. 87-83 non intercooled versions are the weakest. 86-87 IC trans are pretty strong. A maintained one is not likely to break on a stockish motor. Aside from the pan and the vin, the differences are mostly internal. 88-89 pan will fit 83-87 trans. kev
You'd have to pull the extension housing to see the difference. You could tell by the center bearing and the locknut. http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/Professor-Quest123/trans1/P1010581.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/Professor-Quest123/trans1/P1010580.jpg
