Resurrecting a Conquest

Hello starquestclub. My name is Ken and I am working on a 1987 Conquest for my best friend Cory from growing up. This car was purchased brand new by his dad and was supposed to be Cory's car someday. Cory's dad had Hodgkins and died in 1987. After his dad died, his mom didn't have much of a choice for transportation, so she drove the 'quest. Being a young woman at the time, I can only assume that she probably ran it low on fuel often which I have come to discover is completely awful for these cars and their fuel pumps. The car ran until about 1993?

and she couldn't afford to fix it, so it has been sitting ever since. He's been towing this car from place to place over the years without much of a clue as to where to start on it. In about 2010, he was about ready to abandon it and I took it and put it in my warehouse at work until he could afford to start working on it. Well, the time has come where it can no longer stay since our business is moving to a much smaller space, so I am trying to get it running at least. I feel that my friend should have a chance to drive his dad's car, so here I am, trying to put together the pieces of the puzzle to make this car live again.

What I have is: a good tank, a new fuel pump, and NOS fuel filter strainer. What I'll need begins here:

Thanks in advance for any advice anybody can provide. I think we'll be needing it.

Thanks guys.

Great looking out for your buddy. The tank looks clean looking at the filler neck.

The tank might possibly hold liquid, but all the brackets are rusted through. It did have a full tank of gas when I got into it. So far it looks like it will need everything: the pump shelf, pickup tubes, float sender, and filler neck. I got a tank from another member here that is in great shape.

http://www.enginemachineservice.com/conquest.html

I know your working on an 87 but for more info go to

http://www.starquestgarage.com

http://www.starquestgarage.com/manuals/service/conquest/1988/88_conquest_service_nav.html

use the "service manuals" 1988, section the rest are not downloaded.

THEN

Same for the "parts locator manuals"

use the 88 selection as well.

some changes from 87 to 88 but still helpful.

This place says they can rebuild about any fuel sending unit. If I cant get mine working right it will be shipped to them.

Good luck and it's a great thing you are doing for your buddy
