Ok added a couple finishing touches today. First was to bolt down the decking boards, then I mounted and bolted on the motorcycle chocks...very cool looking...and extremely functional to my pleasant surprise.

now that it is mostly built, once done where you heading to?

Well first we're taking the bikes down to my boy Jorge at JD Powersports to get some work done. Angie's bike is getting a chain lube, oil change, and general tune up. Mine is getting the front forks rebuilt and a chain lube.

Then I have to do some more work on my end. Gotta finish up the fairing paint job and get everything back on the bike...can't wait to see what it looks like when put back together.

The overall goal here is to be at MotoGP in Austin this Spring. Woohoo!

  • 2 weeks later...

Finally got some more work done on the CBR today. Spent about three hours with the new Dremel tool on the wheels to clean them up nicely. Had time enough to shoot primer on one side, then it got too cold to finish so I'll shoot the other side tomorrow.

Second shot of basecoat. The weather here has not been friendly to painting...so I've improvised by shooting and baking. Didn't know what kind of success to expect, so I did some research and created my process. Shoot a coat...let it sit for 15 minutes...put in the oven at 175 degrees for another fifteen minutes...then kill the heat and let cool in the oven for an additional 15 minutes. Here's the results so far...

Almost forgot...here's a couple shots right after I pulled them off the bike...greasy and dirty as heck due to the front fork seals leaking...having them rebuilt btw. The yellow stuff you see in the second and third pic is aircraft stripper right after it was shot.

Ok got down to some serious detail work today. First piece is the tail fairing...cleaned it up real nice and started taping it off and laying down the decals I would be using as stencils. Decal stencils, as usual, provided by my man Natallica.

And some nice shots after a coat of clear. Two more coats of clear will eventually go on, but this is what I've been waiting to see for a while. :D
