attack vector
A few updates.Still haven't dyno'd the car. Everything is ready to go but we've run in to an electrical incompatibility between my crank trigger sensor and the AEM stand-alone.I'll post more once we're past this speedbump. I've updated the JNC build thread, but here are some highlights from the final phsae of the build... mostly showing the last of the fabrication for all of the air and water piping. http://www.attackvector.com/proofs/Starion_Story/seattle_update_06/engine_build_2_B/001.jpg http://www.attackvector.com/proofs/Starion_Story/seattle_update_06/engine_build_2_B/004.jpg http://www.attackvector.com/proofs/Starion_Story/seattle_update_06/engine_build_2_B/006.jpg http://www.attackvector.com/proofs/Starion_Story/seattle_update_06/engine_build_2_B/010.jpg http://www.attackvector.com/proofs/Starion_Story/seattle_update_06/engine_build_2_B/013.jpg http://www.attackvector.com/proofs/Starion_Story/seattle_update_06/engine_build_2_B/016.jpg http://www.attackvector.com/proofs/Starion_Story/seattle_update_06/engine_build_2_B/018.jpg This thing is READY! bluzcruzer
Very nice effort AV.....and very nice numbers kawika........I can only hope to do so well. Three yrs and I'm just about to have my girl going....just a few more burbles and I'll be looking at some bigger/better upgrades. With the effort it takes to find, procure and install good parts and figure the technical aspects of these, I can only come away with massive respect for those of you that have found the higher ground. I look forward to meeting you guys at future events.....may your efforts to never bend them or give them away continue.....bc
attack vector
Hey BC! Thanks for the props man! I know what it's like to struggle with these cars for years on end. I'm not sure why... but I've managed to hold on way longer then I ever thought I would. The car has stuck with me through the good times and the bad... and when stuff was really bad I stashed it away in a relatives garage for a couple years and just sat on it. So don't loose your focus man! Sounds like your car is just about ready to face the open roads. I'll be looking forward to seeing it and meeting you and everyone else at the local events this year. Do you think you will make the Younkers Mitsubishi meet on June 30th in Renton? I went to the Old School Reunion this morning in Bothell just to see the cars and take pics. But I had to attend in the MR2, so I got pushed back in to general admission. The meet was PACKED. But I didn't see any starquests by the time I left around noon. (I saw one pulling in right as I was leaving) I should have the Starion on the road for the Renton meet on the 30th though. So I'll be looking for you guys there. attack vector
Small update... In this photo the NEW ENGINE IS RUNNING! F*CK YEAH! http://www.attackvector.com/proofs/Starion_Story/seattle_update_07/003.jpg Havn't dyno tuned it yet though. We got set back about a week due to a strange electrical anomoly that Andre spent days trying to track down. That's been ironed out so it looks like this week is the big week! I'll post numbers when I get them. Edited June 17, 2012 by attack vector
Sonny_Jim
Grats on getting it running! Can't wait to see this beast in person!
creakyjoints
What turbo do you have on it? Me and Kawika went by Andre's shop Thursday after I got off work but it was a ghost town!
ZacMan
Very very cool, congrats on getting it up and running again. The grub screws in the block surface, are they to adjust the flow of coolant through the head as your outlet is now at the front? I'm trying to decide how to route the plumbing on mine. attack vector
Dgaf, Thanks man! It will feel good to finally drive this thing! Creaky, I have a Evo 20G Turbo. Andre keeps really crazy hours. Sometimes he works all night and doesn't leave til 5am. Other times it's more normal hours.
attack vector
Zacman, I'm not sure how Andre is using those set-screws. I admit I'm not an engine builder... not even a good arm-chair one . I can ask him though and get back to you. I know he has done some internal cooling flow and water port work. By relocating the water neck to the other side of the head he realized that the last piston wasn't getting any coolant when he flow-tested the block. So you're right... those screws may have something to do with that.
ZacMan
Ahhh, yeah, that sounds about right, Cool, would love any details you can give
attack vector
Ahhh, yeah, that sounds about right, Cool, would love any details you can give ZacMan, This is what Andre, my builder had to say about the set-screws and coolant flow:"Yes, pinching the coolant recirc hole in the front of the block to force coolant to circulate to the rear of the block. Also to add is drilling a hole in the headgasket to add a recirc hole thru the gasket at the rear of the block. The headgasket only comes with a single recirc pass thru in the back of the block otherwise."
ZacMan
Brilliant, cheers for that info. Looks like a tidy way to do things, having the outlet at the front of the head.

attack vector
wow i'm jealous. perfect color and motor... Thanks BlackAndBoosted! I'll try to get more pics posted when I get the car back on the road. I saw happy that I got a sneak peek of your car! I wish I got to meet you though. That Andre guy is a savage! DGAF, Hahaha, yeah Andre is a monster. He's not an average mechanic. He has a full-blown engineering degree and he's starting to move his business up-market and EFI tune GT3 race cars. I wonder if I'll still be able to afford him a few years from now, lol! Andre mentioned that a lot of people have come by to check on the build. I don't think I've seen my car in at least 6 months. I've been working 65 hours a week and I've got a very pregnant wife at home, so I've just been keeping tabs on stuff by talking to Andre on the phone and having him send me photo updates, etc... I'm jealous that you got to see my car! lol! I miss it =(
Sonny_Jim
When are you going to be available next? It'd be cool to have a hang out bbq or something like that. Is this your first kid? We just had our second, he's weeks now! If you think I can help you out with anything, just ask!
attack vector
DGAF, Yup first kid! So we are nervous, but excited =)As far as when I'm going to be freed up... Oh man... probably not until September. I'm right at the end of a long development project at work (3 years!) And I've been crunching for months. A lot of my weekends get chewed up too. If I think it looks like I have a free weekend coming up I'll be sure to let you know. Maybe we can round some of these other SQ guys up and have a BBQ. That would be great. Thanks for the offer to help! I'm sure we'll have lots of questions. How old is your first kid?
Sonny_Jim
My first kid is 4 and he has so much energy! It's hard to keep up with him! I think I need a treadmill for him or a giant hamster wheel! He's at the age where he copies EVERYTHING I say so I have to watch what I say around him. I can't wait for your car to get done. Kawika's car is an animal! I'd like to see how the dohc compares.
attack vector
Haha, yeah I'm sure it will be a lifestyle change for us. No more rampant swearing in the house, LOL! Thanks for the props on the car man. I can't wait for it to be back on the road. I'm hoping to get a few nice days of driving in this summer. Maybe we can have a SQ meet before the nice weather is over. It's been forever since I've been to a SQ meet. Is Kawika's car MPI? Or is he making big power on TBI? Sonny_Jim
Nice weather!? We get a nice day then a month of rain! Haha! Yeah Kawika's car is MPI. you can see it on this thread.http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=130638
