Install instructions

Tools needed

14mm wrench or socket

10mm wrench or socket

Adjustable wrench

The rear first...

1. Remove the rear/side interior pieces

2. Remove the 14mm nuts from the shock towers. Only the nut towards the middle of the car and the one towards the rear of the car.

3. Install the rear bracket as shown in the picture.

4. Reinstall the lock washer and 14mm nut, but do not tighten yet.

5. Without the trim pieces install the rear bar and put a little tension on the bar by hand tightening the 1/2" nut on the clevises.

6. Tighten the clevis nuts with the 14mm wrenches or sockets. You will tighten them until the clevises pinch the upright support that they attach to.

7. Now that everything is centered in it's final location tighten the 14mm nuts on the shock towers to secure the strut bar brackets.

8. Remove the bar and clevises and reinstall the interior pieces. Note that I will get measurements of where to make the small cuts in the rear trim pieces

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m500/esirtype/Starion/DSC_0962.jpg

9. Insert the clevises back into the strut bar and install on the brackets.

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m500/esirtype/Starion/DSC_0963.jpg

10. Tighten up the nuts.

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m500/esirtype/Starion/DSC_0964.jpg

11. Tighten up the 1/2" nuts and you are done

Note that you will want to play a little with the bar tension by tighten and loosening the nuts to your liking. You should notice the a little difference the more you tighten them.

Now for the front...

1. Remove the 10mm nut from the center of the firewall.

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m500/esirtype/Starion/DSC_0960.jpg

2. Install the firewall bracket behind the metal piece as shown in the picture.

3. Reinstall the 10mm bolt and hand tighten it.

4. Remove the 14mm nuts from the strut towers. You will remove the one closest to the center and the one closest to the firewall.

5. Install the strut bar brackets.

6. Leave everything lose and now install the bars one at a time starting with the firewall tri-bars. Then install the main curved bar. It's easier to align everything while its loose and not bolted down yet. You may want to lift one of the strut plate brackets off the shock tower to insert all the bars. You can also install the bars with everything bolted tight, but it's not recommend for the first install.

http://i1128.photobucket.com/albums/m500/esirtype/Starion/DSC_0959.jpg

7. Reinstall the 14mm bolt with out the lock washer and hand tighten. There is not enough threads exposed to use the lock washer.

8. Now that everything is in place, tighten all 6 of the clevis bolts.

9. Hand tighten all 6 of the 1/2" strut bar nuts.

10. Now that everything is centered where it wants to be on the car tighten the firewall bracket.

11. Now brake out the blue locktight and put a drop on the the strut tower bolts. This is in place of the lock washers. It's recommended but not needed.

12. Tighten the 14mm nuts on the strut towers.

13. Tighten all 6 of the 1/2" strut bars nuts.

Note that again you will want to play with the tightness of the nuts, especial on the main bar. You should notice a difference. From my experience over tightening it will cause the front to push a little in a hard turn.

The reason for installing everything with tension first and then tightening the nuts is to allow the brackets to center. I designed these to fit a little loose. This is because when my brother and I made our GEN 1 sets he had a tweaked frame from being hit before he bought the car. When we designed the set on his car and tried to install them on my car, they didn't fit. So the idea is to allow for this situation (God forbid your frame is tweaked also). Once all the nuts are tightened the brackets will be in there natural resting place.

I had a few questions on the washers, how many and where they go. Here are pictures where you can see the order is 1/2" nut>washer>1" main bar<washer<1/2" nut

How bout shipping to 98922?

Shipping to your zip code is $33.86. What I am doing for everyone is use USPS's online service to pay for shipping. I do this to try to help keep your costs down. It saves $3-$5 versus taking them to the post office for postage.

i'm in process of install. are washers to be used at all 6 clevis bolt locations on the front bars. my fronts came with 2 washers that fit the largest bar. should both ends of the firewall tri-bars have washers also? the bars are smaller so i would figure a smaller outside diameter washer if so. ... these are some bad arse bars. :) Edited by sellerfeller

Man, I am sorry I didn't post that. I forgot about that in post. I actually just PMéd another member telling him about the washers before I saw your post.

Anyways, I will update the install post.

Here's how the washers go. There are 4 washers that go to the end of the 1"bars. So the order is like this. nut>washer>1"aluminum bar<washer<nut. There is an aluminum bung pressed into the end of the 1" bars, the washer spreads the load over the entire 1/2" wall of the 1"bar. I will actually take a picture and post it in the install post.

Again, I am sorry. I was in a major fog from working so much when I posted that. And this is the first I've had the time and mental capacity to post something.

Thanks,

Shawn

Can you pm me when mine are ready? I hope I didn't already ask that lol

I will hit you up as soon as they are ready. I'm slowly catching up and trying my best to get these done ASAP. I don't want to rush them however and miss the small details. I will keep you posted.

Thanks,

Shawn

Hey Shawn,

My set only came with two washers as well, but you're stating that there are four washers. Please advise.

Thanks,

Nick

That's odd, I am wondering if they came off in the packaging. There should be 2 for the front main bar and 2 for the rear main bar. You only have 2 total? I will get this taken care of for you.

Ok I get dunce award. My set has all four washers. It's just when I saw that the front set washers were seperate, I assumed the same with the rears...but the washers were already on the rears. All is well...thanks again Shawn. These things look great.
