ucw458
What white plastic box??? There's no white plastic box next to the ignitor. At least there isn't supposed to be.
Wally Walt
Ya idk what it is there is the giant metal box then a little metal piece that has two wires one goes to the coil and then i have a plastic white box idk its always been there
ucw458
take pictures. None of my 5 SQs had a white plastic box there. The little metal box next to the coil is for the tach and might be for the ecu as well. One wire plugs into the harness and the other goes to the neg side of the coil. Wally Walt
Ya i know that maybe thats bad idk i have to of the black boxes but the harness doesnt fit them sadly so i cant test to see if its bad
Wally Walt
The white box is a porcelain resistor i didnt even think about that but i changed what you said took it off a running one just to try and still got nothing
vbrad511
What year is your car? Do you have spark at all?
ucw458
You really need to take pictures because I don't believe any of these cars came with a resistor in the ignition. Sounds like something someone added and it may be messing things up. The only things that should be on the coil are a little black box that goes from coil + to intake ground. (noise suppressor for the radio) And the little metal box that goes from coil - to the harness. Beyond that you have a blue and white wire linked together going to coil - (ECU signal and ignitor signal) and a red wire to the + side of the coil (12v + feed from the ECI relay). The ignition gets it's power from the ECI fuse link and the main relay above the ECU. Edited November 7, 2011 by ucw458
Leeintheconquest
Seriously, try not to get frustrated with the SQ. Keep digging and you'll get it man. The more information you can give these guys the better. No matter how simple it might be. They'll get you goin agian bud. Do you have access to a SQ service manual? Wally Walt
Btw its an 88 and i had spark bc it ran just fine then i put fluid in the power steering then tried to start it and turn the wheel to get any bubbles out and it wouldnt start so i dont think in getting spark but ill have to check and i just went and bought a new msd coil and that changed nothing just so everyone knows
vbrad511
Verify that you've got spark. Just because you had it doesn't mean you still do. Don't swap the coil, that's likely not the issue. If you've got spark, pull the plugs and see if they're soaked. If so, you've probably got a leaky injector. If not, are you sure you're getting fuel? If you really don't have spark, clean your fusible links and their terminals, even in the box behind the battery. They corrode and fail. Try these things, let us know. Wally Walt
Ok i have spark and fuel i took the line off and it was pumping out and then checked for spark and i also have that so im guessing im just missing air........... Anyway i need a new box i guess?
ucw458
Just because the pump is running doesn't mean you have fuel. The injectors may not be firing. Many things can cause that. We cannot help you any further until you buy a volt meter like we suggested in chat.
joey_crandall
pull the ovcp and see if the injectors are firing.
